James Horton was born est. 1868 in Virginia. His father is Henry Horton and his mother is Martha. AT the time of the 1880 US Census taken at Lynchburg, Campbell Co., VA James Horton was 12y and at school. His older brother, Charles was 18y. Henry was 51 and wife Martha was 49, all born in Virginia.

In the 1870 US Census, there was a James M. Horton, son of William P. Horton whose  wife was Ellen M., both parents were 38y and born in Virginia. Only dau. Sarah E. who was 11 was born in TN, The other 6 children were born in VA.
