Greetings.
I am trying to find the true origin of Pierre de Morlaix, later known as "Perkins".
An unsourced essay by James Fulton Perkins ("Of the Distinguished Surname Perkins" at http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~sonyapl/essay/perkins_essay_part_one.htm) seems to be the most quoted source for how de Morlaix who became Perkins. Most of the essay is questionable speculation and contradictory.
This is found at Wikitree at: Pierre de Morlaix formerly Morlaix aka Perkins (Morlaix-1)
In its place, I believe "The Perkins Family in Ye Olden Times" by Mansfield Parkyns, Esq. offers a much more reliable and believable explanation of how the name came about, as found in Chapter V. Page 34 Ashmole's MSS. 852. fol. 301. (Elias Ashmole, 1665 http://memory.loc.gov/master/gdc/scdser01/200401/books_on_film_project/PSCLOC_BF010/20070309023le/00000011.pdf) .
This is found at Wikitree at: Perkins Morley (Morlaix-1)
I would like to correct this often repeated Pierre de Morlaix fabrication that has perpetuated across the internet.
I welcome your opinion Regards, Terry Welshans
