Azariah Grant b abt 1748/49 (est from tombstone inscription) d 20 Feb 1819 Berlin, Washington, Vermont, USA m 20 Aug 1770 Glastonbury, Hartford, Connecticut, USA Abigail Crowfoot.  I have been to these places and seen the tombstone and marriage record.  Some say, he is the son of Azariah Grant b abt 1722 Windsor, CT and Abigail Beament.  I have found nothing that will lead me to conclude that to be true.  If he is the son of Azariah Grant b 1722 it would have to have been with his first wife Eunice unknown.  That is more likely; however, I find no real documentation of records for circumstancial evidence or vital record to support any of the theorys.

An Ancestral File has Capt. Azariah Grant Sr., born about 1722, died 17 Apr 1798. His parents are Samuel Grant III born 19 Sep 1691 Hartford, CT, died 7 Apr 1751 CT. Samuel's wife was Theophyle Bartlett born about 1693 Hartford, CT, death 23 Dec 1775.

Samuel's father was Samuel Port Grant II born 20 Apr 1659, d. 8 May 1710. He married Grace Miner born 20 Sep 1670, died 16 Apr 1753.

A second Ancestral File has Azariah Grant, Jr. b. about 1754, d. Feb 1822.

The third Ancestral File has Axariah Grant born about 1722 at E. Windsor, Hartford, CT, d. 17 Apr 1798 at E. Windsor, Hartford, CT. It lists three wives, Abigail Beaman marriage about 6 July 1749. She died 19 Feb 1763. Another wife, Eunice, no date shown for marriage, her birth or death. Third wife, Mary Benton, born 1741, died 1800.

I have DNA matches (triangulations) with other Azariah descendants and descendants of Matthew. The matches seemed to be pretty strong for the implied 9th cousin relations, but not impossible. Azariah is missing from the descendants of Matthew Grant, but I did not see a wife named Eunice. I thought about the possibility that he was illegitimate, and the author left him out. It is odd that Azariah Sr also did not mention him in his will, only his 3 daus.

Another possibility is that they did not know his exact birthdate, and he was b after the marriage.

I could find no documentary evidence for his father.
