i've found the given name griffin in the 1744 will of shusanna CLEGHORN, registered in new castle, delaware.  the griffin given name is one i find nowhere else in the area or the time.  since i do not know the maiden name, the surname of shusanna, or her husband's given name either, for that matter, i wonder where the griffin came from.  perhaps GRIFFIN was her maiden surname as that would follow a common naming pattern of that time.  can you offer any possible explanation? were there any GRIFFINs in the northern delaware, new jersey, southeastern pennsylvania, or north-eastern maryland around the early 1700s?  i've  looked but have not found any but perhaps you have information that is not available online.  thanks in advance.
