I am angry. I did all the work and now someone is managing my DIRECT ancestors.

What gives? I researched it, downloaded here when no one else did and now my name is no where. I  am a direct ancestor of the Bonin Martinet Family.  My mother was a Bonin.  Who are these people who are changing up my original family tree and why do they have control of  my family??? Some of these people are only distantly related.  They have only a cursory interest.  This tree is the story of MY LIFE.I hate this sham of a "world" family.

It would be helpful if you would include verifiable sources that a professional genealogist must have provided for the research for which you paid.  This is one of your profiles and as you can see there isn't much to it.

this might help not sure i was speculating let me know i already have a few profiels i can send you links to

Pamela,

I just skimmed a variety of your contributions and your name is still listed as contributor on all the ones I reviewed. Please point to examples of profiles where the changes are to your disliking.

While how Acknowledgements are displayed or not on a profile has changed since you uploaded your GEDCOM, a contributor's name is always tracked through the Changes tab.  So even if someone removed your name from the public display, it's still recorded on the Changes tab.

What hasn't  changed since you uploaded your gedcom is the honor code you signed:

http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Honor_Code

I also believe that the instructions for uploading GEDCOMs has not changed significantly. There are a few different pages so it's possible you missed this one:

http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Before_importing_a_GEDCOM

I'm sorry you're angry. But I'm more sorry that you didn't read more about wikitree before you contributed your research. Especially this page:

http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ownership_and_control

Wikitree is a collaborative site where we work together on one family tree.

Well said Jilliaine.  This site is a collaborative one.  And one where politeness is always welcomed.

I have paid for professional research in the past but i have shared the results here because I believe in genealogical karma - what goes around, comes around.  Nobody "owns" their ancestors uniquely - they belong to all of their descendants.   I have no doubt that my willingness to share the results of my labours will pay dividends in the future - its also my way of saying thanks to all those fellow (amateur) genealogists, sometimes they are third, fourth and fifth cousins, over the years who have helped me learn more about my family tree.  And some of them even found me thanks to Wikitree!!
I COMPLETLY AGREE, AND I FIRMLEY BELIVE MY WIKI COLABORATERS ARE TRULY IN VOLVED WITH ONLY THE BEST INTENTIONS IN MIND THANKS TAKE CARE

Hi P.V., Thank you for your contributions to the world wide WikiTree.

It has been almost two years since you uploaded your gedcom to WikiTree. Thank you again for your contributions.  Things have changed in the past two years, so I suggest that you reread the Honor Code and some of the introductory information, maybe ask for the help of a WikiTree mentor.  I try not to delete a contributor's name from the profiles that I update, but the Acknowledgments section is optional.

Any WikiTreer can edit any of the open profiles on the WiikiTree.  It may be that someone was cleaning up the profiles from your gedcom import as each and every imported profile needs to be trimmed up of information that makes no sense to the public reader or looks messy.  The editors of the profiles you imported may not be related to your ancestors at all.  I often add sources to profiles such as FindAGrave memorials or census data, but as I said, I try not to delete any information that others have contributed.

Anyway, please consider asking for a WikiTree mentor to guide you throught the recent changes to the policies and procedures.

I have marked anything from WikiTree as spam. It won't be long before others will do the same.  You are ungrateful and it shows.
This is an electronic record of your Wikitree history:

2013

8/25 1 hour 46 minutes

8/26 1 minute

9/8 5 minutes

9/23 5 minutes

2015

8/10 1 minute

17/8 In the G2G now

You received 2 thank yous for agreeing to join the Wikitree and for your electronic signature that you understood the Honor Code.  You received another thank you in anticipation of you uploading a GEDCOM.  You have received no thank yous after your contributions were inspected.

Kitty already knew that but she was being polite. And the politeness and gratitude of Kitty is consistent, regular and has been for a long time.

That's what shows!

Not a valid response. For example I spend 10 hours on this site not logged in for every one minute I am logged in.

Thanks Andrew.  I really am not a mean person but I hired someone and was the only person who had taken the time and money to go back to 1615 in France.  I voted for your answer but I think this is my last visit here,  Someone will hire a lawyer and this site will have to change it's outrageous control of the information they are confiscating from people who hold it so dear. It's just morally and ethically wrong.  I would never have given any information about my family to be changed into what it is now.

Pamela,

I do not know which of your profiles you believe have been modified by someone else. I went through every profile you manage. Except for two that had been merged with another duplicate, not one has had any modification done by any WikiTreer. They are all still in the same condition they were when you uploaded your GEDCOM. They still contain all the garbage that results from such an upload.

If other people have created Bonin profiles in their family tree, that is their right. Your profiles are still as you left them. They have not been modified in any way.

Ouch!  :D

Pamela, I didn't check all of the profiles you edited, but checked a lot of them, and I found only one two that has have another profile manager: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Tellier-72 and http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bonin-63 . That's Those are the instances where two profiles were determined  to represent the same person, so they were merged. You are now one of two managers on those profiles.

Do you have a problem with the current content of those profiles?

I haven't been here long but I am really happy about the collaboration basis of  Wiki tree. Personally, I find history fascinating and obviously it's great to find out about our  ancestors but I don't think we own them and if others can help that's great.

Your post sent me off  wondering what, if any,  sources were readily available  for your  French ancestors.  I don't know much about French sources but I live here and it's obvious the French are very 'into' genealogy so I thought it was a good time to learn .

I've written down what I've found because it may be of some use to you. If it isn't well it taught me something!

The  Isere Archives has many records online http://www.archives-isere.fr/1425-archives-en-ligne.htm   You have to tick to say that you agree with conditions but then searching is not difficult if you know the commune and dates  as you do. It would be very much harder without) because the records aren't indexed.

French old documents are a bit a struggle to read and some of the pages in very poor condition .However, it didn't take long to find the baptism entry for your Paul Bonin Martinet http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bonin_Martinet-1

It is in the baptismal register for St Laurent 1637-40

The reference is Image : 77 Cote : 9NUM3/AC185/84

When you've found an image you want to record there is a basket (panier) which you place the image in. You can then convert all  the  images into PDFs It's very easy to use and an excellent resource.

I also found this site that partly solves the indexing problem for some records.

http://www.cgdauphine.org/html/releves/gbk_cgd.html#bapt

This is the local circle of genealogists  and they have  indexed some records. You can find many Bonin Martinets by searching in the various boxes (there are a lot of wills for the family). Unfortunately the actual documents are then on a pay to view site.( I haven't investigated that)  Nevertheless, I suspect that the dates are helpful if the records are in the Isere Archives. Also  in the marriage contracts section you do get both  the husband and wifes surname and the year of marriage.
