What sort of information are you looking for on her?  Ancestors?  Descendants?  I located a Gertrude Dixon on an ancestry tree, daughter of Ernest Leroy Dickson and Esther Frederica Moller.  She married George Aloysius Hill and had son James and daughter Ethel. 

Ernest is shown as the son of James and Augusta Dickson from Massachusetts, while Esther shows as the daughter of Gustav Moller and Emma Lorentzen, both from Norway to Massachusetts.  I can't vouch for the accuracy, but it gives you something to work from.

Ernest & Esther appear, with daughter Gertrude age 7, on the 1920 census in Tewksbury, Middlesex, MA (Ref: Year: 1920; Census Place: Tewksbury, Middlesex, Massachusetts; Roll: T625_719; Page: 11A; Enumeration District: 469; Image: 525).  Other children are Frederick L, age 16; Florence age 12; Louis age 1-5/12.  Ernest is age 38; Esther age 35.

Gertrude's on the 1940 census (Ref: Year: 1940; Census Place: Tewksbury, Middlesex, Massachusetts; Roll: T627_1618; Page: 6A; Enumeration District: 9-500), age 26, with daughter Ethel age 3.  She's renting a home for $8/month & is a mother's helper.  She completed school through 5th grade.  It's shows her as married, but she's head of household with no male living with her & her daughter.

Yes this is her! Where can I find the family tree. I'm looking for descendants of George which obviously includes Ethel. I don't believe James is his son though.

In that same 1940 census, also in Tewksbury, is a married George Hill living on State Street; he's listed as head of household and married, but there is no one living with him. Says he was born Vermont about 1910. He was a laborer, "general work". Right age to be "your" George A. Hill.

Ah, it's the ancestry family tree that lists children in addition to Ethel; namely:

James, b 1927

Edward, b 1929

Ethel, b 1937

Yeah, Gertrude was probably not the mother of the boys; as she was stills single and living with parents in 1930, yes?

I take that back. 1930 census, Gertrude and George have been married for 2-3 years. There are two young boys-- James E. and Edward , under 3, listed under them, but the census taker has drawn an arrow linking James and Edward to George's brother James H., 25., married, but wife not there.

Yes, there was a baby.  because Gertrude was a border under Ethel Murray with a baby Dixon in 1930. Gertrude seemingly left after her mother died. I fear her family wasnt good to hear. Anyway, I can only speculate why a baby was with her and who the father was. My grandma didnt have a good youth either... I guess I need to drive down to SLC to view the trees. I don't have a membership right now. I'm glad I live close to the headquarters. Thanks for your help. I'm hoping to see if Ethel is still alive and or where her children are. :-)

Anna, I found George and Gertrude in the 1930 census, together, living with his parents in North Westport. Unless it's a different couple by the same name? Must be? WAY far south of Tewksbury.

I'm looking at the 1930 census record of Ethel Murray in Tewksbury, where Gertrude Dixon, 16, is boarding. There's a 4-year-old Jean Dixon (female) also there. Too old to be Gertrude's daughter. A younger sister? There's also an Albert Smith, one year, 4 months, enumerated in same house as boarder.

According to some adoption records for a baby my grandma gave up, George's parents were Herbert and Sadie. The closest names I have found where he was born in Maine are Charles H. Hill and Sallie Bell Lombard. Are these the names for the 1930 census?

No, the 1930 census I found does not have Herbert and Sadie as George Hill's parents; the census matches the online family tree on Ancestry.com and has another George and a Mary as parents. But I'd treat that online tree with great skepticism at this point; I've already discovered one error.

But the 1930 census I did find is still intriguing.

Do you know if your George Hill ever worked in the mills?

There’s a  George W. (age 31) and Sadie A Hill (age 23) on the 1910 census in Jaffrey, NH with son George E. Hill, age 5, born Massachusetts; other sons Walter A (3), Robert F (2), William J (3/12), and father-in-law William H. Bacon (age 65, born NH) (so this is Sadie’s father). Excuse me, I found George Hill to be a boarder in Massachusetts in 1930. This makes sense because he was born in Maine around 1909 or 1907. I believe the abbreviation for Maine and Massachusetts or the whereabouts were often misconstrued. Just the same as Tewksbury, Mi, Ma... Mi stands for the county of Middlesex.

Yes, this is her. :-) I know she had a daughter named Ethel. Do yo know anymore? My maternal grandpa was George. He bailed on Gertrude and my grandma when their daughters were just babies.
