Who were the parents of Catherine Mathers born in Scotland about 1852?

Catherine married Joseph Stuart Pozzi 18 July 1878 in Sandymount, Dublin, Ireland in Sandymount Presbyterian church. Who were her parents? Where & when was she born? (appears to be Scotland) Catherine's daughter Annie "worked for her uncle at his hotel in Dundee", so was David Mathers who owned the hotel Catherine's brother? Was Charles Mathers, the only Mathers listed in Dublin at the time Catherine was there, any connection? A family photo shows her with her husband, young children and an older couple the family believe to be her parents.

David Mathers, can be found in the 1881 Scotland Census, born c1847, Dundee as a hotel manager in Dundee, and both the 1891 & 1901 Census as a hotel proprietor.

This David Mathers's birth is recorded as 12 December 1846, the son of Alexander Crawford Mathers & Margaret Mcgrigor.(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XB8W-9XH)

Other children of Alexander & Margaret appear to be Robert Malloch b 8 September 1849, Thomas Alexander b 24 March 1852, Alexander F c1857, Samuel c1859.All born Dundee.
Thank you for all the effort you have applied to this question. I'm still at the brick wall with Catherine. Perhaps when I am in Dundee next month, some progress can be made. I plan to go to the Dundee library because they have a good deal of info about David and his hotel. Can you suggest where else I might look? I want to be well prepared as this will be a once in a lifetime trip.
All the evidence suggests David Mathers was not the uncle of Catherine, however, with the same surname, possibly cousin. I think it worth focusing on David's father, Alexander Crawford Mathers and seek whether he had siblings that could have migrated to Dublin.

Alexander Crawford Mathers was the keeper of a temperance hotel in Crichton Street, Dundee in 1881. he gives his birthplace as Dundee, around 1820. I traced his birth as 9 October 1821, Alexander CrawFURD MaTTERS, christened 21 October 1821, Monifieth, Angus, the son of David Matters & Margaret Crawfurd. ( https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XBDP-XV3) The same surname spellings of David & Margaret are evident in their marriage record. (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTV1-FYL) Unfortunately, Alexander is the only child I have found!
Thank you. You have added a lot to the information to follow up. Great Help.
Good fortune in Dundee! Let us know your findings please.

Hi Judith,

I believe that Maria is probably the mother of both Catherine and Mary Anne.

I found the marriage of David Mathers to Eliza Neill nee Wylie in 1878, and have created her profile and attached to David.  Joseph and Kate Pozzi were their witnesses.

I also have a extra body for you. The informant for Joseph S Pozzi's death in 1894 was his brother-in-law  John Mathers.

Cheers for now,

Thorby
