Morton-3465 is one of my brick walls.... He was born in Ohio and raised his family there.  The area of Ohio he was in is right on the Ohio river, so possible that his family was from West Virginia.... Hoping to find some Morton's he would possibly connect to

I see in Thomas's profile that the 1860 U.S. census states that Eva and the children are all listed as being born in Virginia.  Keep in mind that this area of Virginia could be what is now West Virginia, because West Virginia was formed from several northwestern counties of Virginia, and it didn't become a state until 1863. They should still be listed as from Virginia, since that was the jurisdiction at that time.

I mention this because one of my brick walls was a great grandfather who was born in West Virginia while his brother was born in Virginia the previous year (according to several census records).  I finally found birth records for both men in Wheeling, Virginia - the records were in Virginia archives, not in West Virginia.
