Presqu'ile Godefroy, Godefroi, then Godfroi and ultimately Godfrey or Godfroy was born near Detroit, then Lower Canada in 1784. He entered Ontario as an adult and settled in what is now Port Hope, on the north shore of Lake Ontario, in 1810. His wife Hannah, was an American. They had eleven living children when she died in childbirth. He remarried a woman called Mary Ann and had four other children. I am descended from his son Manley Godfroy, who had a son called Christopher Godfrey who had a son called Lachlan Wellington Godfrey.
