Why don't external links in WikiTree lead to new tabs or have I got my links wrong?

Why don't external links in WikiTree lead to new tabs or have I got my links wrong? Most websites now helpfully lead you away from the page where you saw the link to a new tab ab initio thus making it easier to return to where you were and, if required, navigate around the link you followed.

I just press(not roll) the wheel button on the mouse and a new tab will open if you are on a link

I was wondering the same. I was thinking of html tags that don't appear to work in Wikitree. Oh well...I went to look at a source and of course forgot to right click to open in new tab and again...page changes. Would be nice to see an amendment.

I came across your question when I was about to post a similar one! No thanks needed. I know they probably like to keep Wikitree simple in the allowable usage and I'm sure there is a way since various pages inside Wiki do have target=new  links (might be expressed in the scripting differently - my knowledge is a bit old hat these days).  I am also aware of one of my pet peeves when going to a website and clicking through various links when EVERY SINGLE LINK opens to a new page or tab, but with sources, I would think it would make sense to have them open on a new page.

Then there is the thought it might have something to do with traffic and statistics. They may seek to know who 'stays on Wikitree', versus who is just passing through. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has ever left a tab open when I'm not actively using it, but there are ways to keep track of idleness and activeness.

As a rule, I usually 'right-click' and select 'open in new tab' anyway, for most website links.

For iPhone and iPad users, right-click is hold-tap. (But resulting new page requires re logging in. See separate question about this bug. )
Thanks - there always is that option but I like many was brought up as an automatic left clicker! I just thought WikiTree might look into it as it's easier to navigate (or so our clients tell our web hosting service provider.
Thanks - using Windows (from a desktop) you don't get that bug which must be annoying.
But from a link, you cannot be certain if it is internal or external link. Wikipedia adds an icon for all external links and I think, that is a good solution and then you just press CTRL+click to open new tab.
That  is the sort of solution that would work - thanks for drawing it to the attention of those who might implement it.
Bill, if you can, could you add another tag to your post to catch the eyes of those who might implement Aleš Trtnik's suggestion? The tag: improvements
I usually click the mouse wheel to open in a new tab. It's less effort than right click.
Hopefully I have done it right! If not please say what I should have done. Thanks - Bill
Thanks
