Seeking Maine Civil War Kimball men

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me out.  I'm a direct Kimball descendant but I have not found the connection to these 3 men from Maine. The only facts I know about these men are their names and Civil War military ranks, They were in the Maine Infantry or Cavalry and they at least lived in Maine and possibly were born and died their as well 1. 1st Lt. Melville Crocker Kimball, 4th Maine Batty. 2. 1st Lt. Caleb Kimball Co. H Maine Infantry, 3. 2nd Lt. George S Kimball 1st Regiment, Co. C, Maine Cavalry. Since I don't have a birth or death date for these men I cannot create a profile or search for a match.

thanks, Jeanette

Have you tried searching SAR or DAR for them, by chance?

This source may have some information. A Kimball in my profile list was in it. He was born in MA and died in Maine around the right timeframe, but he wasn't any of the names you're looking for. https://archive.org/stream/historyofkimball00morr   ''History of the Kimball family in America, from 1634 to 1897 and of its ancestors the Kemballs or Kemboldes of England''
Yes I have tried the SAR but I didn't find anything.

This page from the Kimball book has a Melville Crocker Kimball, b in Maine in 1840, so he might the one you are looking for. His name is unique enough that perhaps if you trace it back/forward a few years, you will find the one you want.  His father's name is Ida Crocker Kimball: https://archive.org/stream/historyofkimball02morr#page/n121/mode/2up  This book is Volume 2 of the one I referenced in my initial comment.

There are many Caleb's and George S. Kimballs listed in the index of this same volume.

Good luck.

Thank you very much. This is the best possible link so far. I'm currently going through the Kimball in America books but I', in vol. 1. Thank you very much

This may or may not be the right George S Kimball, but the timing is right: He married Hannah L. Cole in Augusta ME August 8, 1862. (from Augusta, ME: Vital Records to the Year 1892)

This certainly seems right. and the dates match. It looks as though he married after the war. I have found military records for all of them but it didn't help to identify them as there were no additional family information given. Just in case anyone is interested I found a web site http://statedocs.maine.gov/arc_civilwarportraits which is run by the state of Maine. They are offering photos of their Civil War photos of officers free of charge, which is how I came to try to find the gentlemen in my original question. I'll look for all of them in the Kimball Books.

Thank you for all the help.
