I will be very busy this weekend with family members in from out of state and with the party's and cook out's I will not be thinking about WikiTree much, and let's not forget that this weekend is not only a holiday in the US but it is also the weekend for our county fair.  I even posted on the Greeters schedule that I am going to be away from my time slot on Sunday so that hopefully some one can cover for me. As a side note my Step Son is still off work because his thumb is not healing as it should, but he is improving and should be back on the job by this time next week.

That has "France" written all-over" it.  Bay (laurel) is native to Catalunya and I guess all the Mediterranean.  The other stuff too with a quick glance (except allspice and cloves - but that is covered with the other peppers).

A pound is a half-kilo about to make it easy to remember (548 grams, Kilo is 1000 grams). A cup is 250 milliliters, a pint is 2 cups or a half-liter, and 2 pints (quart) is liter (about).  UK measurements are a little larger with these antique words. :D

"Oh, she stands about 16 hands, weighs 9 stones and drinks two flagons of wine a day".  ....could be my mother-in-law :D

Sunday was somewhat of a good day because with a Pool Party/Birthday party (for 2)/ Reunion I managed to get 2 people interested in WikiTree and invited them to join.  One more party tomorrow with another branch of the family to go.

I thought I was too old for the Kiss Army but when I had AC/DC near-front row tickets forced on me I went in about 1980.  Appreciated their stuff ever since.  They even made the transition to a new lead singer effortlessly.

I believe the Magic Tour was their last tour as well, so yes I was really lucky :D Something quite different but a ''must'' for a Tukker girl (People from Twente are named Tukkers for the ones that don't know)  like me was Tuckerville of course :P  , but if I could choose where to go for a second time guess you know where I would go eeh :)

Happy Weekend to All,

Lots of outdoor grilling planned at our house this weekend. The weather is great, the flowers are blooming & the butterflies & hummingbirds love it. We need an air traffic controller at our hummingbird feeder.

The Magna Carta Project has been my focus the past few weeks, as well as dabbling in G2G.

My tip for those new to genealogy is to read the actual source documents for additional clues not shown in the record index. Also, don't discount family trees you find on-line. Some contain great sources.

Hi All. My name is Martin and my wife's name is Mandy (Amanda) and we currently live in Dorset, England. Just to say hello, only just got started here. Have been working on our tree now for a couple of years and in the process hooked up with some long lost cousins which was good. Have my own website with a full tree of many family members. My wife's family was the easiest to trace as more Irish resources are free. I am struggling with my paternal line however, as the surname is Smith, And for some reason my Grandfather Smith had little contact with his family. Anyway I carry on in the hope that one day I will come across that link that will fill in some gaps.

Our bank holiday was last weekend. However My wife and are are on holiday now for a week so I may get some photo's. The problem we have this weekend is the forecast, we are supposed to be getting what they call a Polar Bloom and temperatures are set to drop possibly to zero. We hope not as we have been used to 20 to 28 degrees over the last few weeks. And thank you for your help, Hope I didn't mess things up too much.

Ooooo Martin!  Well, first welcome to WikiTree.  :-)

Now for the ooo part.  I tracked my Paternal line to William Goulding, a puritan preacher who left for Jamestown and ended up shipwrecked on Bermuda.  He died in 1648 in Bermuda.  He is tied to Dorset.  :-)

Yes and/or no.  LOL Supposedly but I have never found him listed on the Venture AND if is DOB is correct he would have been quite young.  How would he have become a Puritanical Preacher if he was going back and forth to Jamestown and Bermuda and Boston...He most defintately dies in Bermuda in 1648.

Weren't the Puritanical preachers laymen instead of seminary taught, as they were protestants and their schools would have been at the mercy of the Orthodoxy? As laymen, then their education from elder preachers could have been accelerated.

Regarding your enquiry about our gardens yes we do have some lovely ones around here, however we went away last week and traveled to mid Wales and sadly being a novice here I was trying to see if I could post one of the photos we took when we went to the wonderful Llynn Brianne reservoir near Llandovery but unfortunately couldn't work it out.

Confederate Brigadier General Jeff Thompson was in Arkansas while Hildebrand was recovering from his wounds, an decided to commission him the rank of Major. An Illinois sheriff eventually shot and killed him. This weekend is a long one.  Monday is Labor Day.  And in our city of St-Jerome, it is also the weekend for garage sales or yard sales. We'll go for a ride to find any unique tresory and will stop at the nursery as all plants are at 50% off.  Might comme back home with new hostas :)

Jumping out of a perfectly good airplane? When you go by airplane you're supposed to have a seat where they serve you wine or the adult beverage of your choice. I reckon if I tried to open the door and rush out, I might get handcuffed. I hear tell of people sky-diving (even George H. W. Bush does it) but I can't help thinking that there's some law that I would be breaking. Something about gravity or the like. I don't like to break laws. That gets you in all kinds of trouble. But if you don't mind breakin' the law, you go right ahead. I'm sure the birds love the company.

When I was 18?  Well, actually I was 18 for a few decades.  :D  But when I was about 18 for real (give or take a year or so) I jumped out of a perfectly good flying airplane - once.  No static-line or buddy, all on "me lonesome".  It was actually not so bad.  You get a big smile once the descent starts and you check all the straps to make sure they're actually connected.   It's strange to see birds flying way up in the sky (below you :D).  Also, however, down below all I could think about was the train tracks, the power lines and where I was heading.  But I landed in the soft, grassy cow pasture (narrowly missed a barbed-wire fence I should add) as was intended.  I could have even stayed on my feet, but I needlessly fell over thinking I was going to hit hard (but I didn't).

When I was 15ish, I convinced my father to take me to a skydiving show. Unbeknownst to him, it was because I wanted to try it out and thought this might be a good way to get some information on how one goes about it.

We got there, only to discover, that the weather had canceled the performance. I did, however, find out one had to be 18. By the time I turned 18, I'd grown some sense (or gotten other interests) and never did try.

I had to attend a class to learn.  This guy just showed us the step on the airplane from where we would have to jump.  It lasted about 3 minutes and involved me handing over $35 if I remember correctly.  :D  I was fortunate enough to get to see one load of jumpers go before me and this guy that jumped came down sort of spinning and when he hit (about 200 yards/meters away - you could hear the wind get knocked out of him - one of those bad things that happens but still makes everybody laugh.)

Well, this is going to be an exciting weekend in terms of genealogy for me as I solved one HUGE brick wall by accessing the probate records for an ancestor.

I have been meaning to send for his WILL for months and then, all of the sudden ANCESTRY released their probate records for every US state.

My car is mostly dead. I was in the dealership talking to the salesman and looking at his card and said, "you're name sounds familiar." It turns out he and my husband have a common set of great-grandparents. His grandmother Carrie and my husband's grandmother Gladys were sisters, and I was remembering Carrie's married name.

My husband bought a Mercury Comet from his sister. The engine was blown and needed a valve grind and a couple of valves. He hooked it up to his engine hoist (we don't have convenient trees) and got all the work done. Six hundred dollars later he has a spare motor that he can put in a 1968 Ford Mustang when he gets the body. It is not, however, stored in the bathtub. That's for smell good bubbles and rubber duckies, not motors.

The kids are in charge of the house tonight. No parties! nobody coming over! Should be OK, they're good kids. My son is on the high school football and soccer teams. That shouldn't be a problem... Maybe I should make sure my insurance is all up to date.

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all have a great and safe Labor Day Weekend! What's cooking for Labor Day?

Here is my recipe for roasted potato salad.

Red Potatoes (3-5 lbs) washed and diced then allow to dry.

Coat with olive oil salt and pepper

Spread out in a baking pan and bake at 400 degrees for about 30 minutes.

While potatoes are roasting, fry 8 - 10 slices of bacon and crumble.

Chop a bunch of green onions, a green pepper,a rib of celery, and parsley.

When potatoes are tender, remove from oven and let them cool a little. Add all other ingredients and add the dressing of your choice, Mayonnaise, mustard, ranch dressing, or a vinaigrette.

Serve warm or at room temperature.

When I get back to Spain I'll try exactly this recipe.  I'll take your "green onions" to mean scallions and "green pepper" to mean a bell pepper and a "rib of celery" to be a celery stalk. (also I'm salt-free except for pasta water).  Otherwise, it's "Thunderbirds Are Go!"

It's very nice weather in northern New York but the cool nights have made the swimming pool too cold for my fish granddaughter.  Therefore, I am giving her "Survival 101" before school starts.  She is learning how to measure, follow recipe directions etc.  Now she is working on her own small quilt.  It brings back memories of working with her mother in 4-H and doing the same things.

Hi Amy, she is eleven.  I started her and her sisters on instant pudding and jello when they were in first grade and learning to read.  Cutting, and decorating cookies was the next step.  Cake mixes lend themselves to easy directions and following directions also.  My eleven year old made banana bread from scratch and was so proud, plus it sneaks fruits into the menu.  She has made a doll quilt and now is on her own cuddle size quilt.  The seams are not square but we don't care.  Learning and practice is great fun and a diversion from wall to wall tv.  We are almost done and she is so proud!
