Which Anna Bradt married David Peter Schuyler in 1723 Albany?

+7 votes

Anna/Annetje (Bradt-237) was the daughter of Andries A. Bradt and Cornelia Teunise Verwey, who was baptised January 17, 1694, Albany, NY. However, I am not sure this is the Anna who married David Schuyler.

I have found sources that give three different Anna Bradts as the wife of David Schuyler. (Schuyler-254)

"Early Families of Herkimer County" says this is the correct Anna. Early New Netherland Settlers lists BOTH this Anna and also the daughter of Dirck Barentse Bradt and Anna Egbert as having married David Schuyler.

Two other individuals have told me she is the daughter of Dirck Arentse Bradt and Maria Van Epps.

I am interested in resolving this. These were such prominent families in the Albany area that there must be some more definitive sources.  How to proceed?

Here's a thread about this issue : In response to the Bradt/Schuyler connection: C. B's  supplement to
the Bradt Genealogy has on page 9 a correction to her first volume wherein she now agrees with F. C 's.

 F. C, in her 2 Vol Schuyler Genealogy, gives the parents of Anna BRADT as Dirk Arents BRADT
and Marritje van EPPS, so guess this thread is the answer to your question , see the whole thread for sources etc.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction, and pardon me for not checking previous threads!  I'm working to amend David Schuyler's profile to reflect this.

* 1720 17 Jul With L. David Schuyler and Anna Brad.

# 1721 12 Feb Alida, of David and Anna Schuyler. Wit.: Meindert and Alida Schuyler.

# 1723 10 Mar Pieter, of David and Anna Schuylers. Wit.: Dirck Bratt, Alida Schuyler.

That's tough because she didn't live long enough to leave much evidence and she didn't use a patronym. Only examining the bapitsms and death record of Anna, both of her children were apparently named for their paternal grandparents but a Dirck witnessed the second baptism. Andries and Cornelia were both dead by this point though so Dirck could have been standing in for her father.

David's parents are also apparently given at least two different ways on this site as he was supposedly the son of Alida Gerrits van Slichtenhorst.

Alida Van_Slechtenhorst-3 and Alida Van_Slichtenhorst-9

Edit: Oh I see where the confusion comes from on David's mother; she was the widow of Gerrit van Schaik, which would make her "Gerritse" that way and not the daughter of Gerrit van Slichtenhorst.

So in light of this and what Bea posted, you may want connect her to Dirk Arents Bradt-17 and Marritje van Eps-1, mark them as uncertain, explain the confusion in her biography and that the current consensus (as of the year 2000) by Schuyler researchers is that her parents are Dirk and Marritje.
Thank you , Carrie.
You're welcome Jaki and thank you Carrie so great to see you again here ;)
Hi Bea! :D (I took a small break from the Netherlands genealogy to focus on Sweden genealogy) Are you back from vacation yet? I had a few Dutch Roots questions.
Yes I'm home, back to normal life again here, trying to work on my own poor tree between all other things :P Sweden eeh ? Maybe you have some knowledge about Norwegian as well ?

Looking for some info for some of my ancestors from Norway (Brickwall) anyway just ask always happy to help eeh :)

I have a few Norwegians in my tree but have not had the opportunity to research them. As someone mentioned in my post about Sweden, this seems to be the place to go? http://www.arkivverket.no/eng/Digitalarkivet There appears to be some free data there! :o

Thank you Carrie ! :D
