An Ancestral File has  Ashal Ackland born 1838 at Rising Sun, PA and his wife, Jane Jenkins born in 1842. Their son, John Henry Ackland was also born at Rising Sun, PA on 2 Aug 1864. He died 28 Aug 1932 at Laurens, Pocahontas, IA. He married Ida Bell Smoot on 4 July 1889 at the age of 68.
