Kim Cornis:
The Benjamin Ellis you inquired about is my gr-gr-grandfather. Your inquiry prompted a response because I notice some of the same misinformation that caused me so much trouble. I am completing a five year genealogy project--and determining his birthplace, birth year and immediate family members have required more of my time than anything else. A few of my findings that will probably interest you:
Hallum Hall--is a misspelling circulated by previous historians in my own family because it appears on his 1907 Kent County Death Record.
Benjamin Ellis was born in Holme Hale, Norfolk Co., England. He was the fourth of five children. His family attended the Parish of St. Andrew, based on the baptism records of his siblings. Benjamin's own baptismal record was omitted from parish records in 1828 due to a clerical error. Benjamin's correct date of birth has been determined to be June 18, 1828.
Benjamin's parents: Robert and Ellen Ellis, were not associated with the parish of Kettlestone in any way.
Your reference to Kettlestone Parish probably refers to a search result I obtained from the Library and Archives of Canadian for a "Robert Ellis" who immigrated on the ship, Pentelope to Canada in 1836 as part of Kettlestone Parish.
A transcription error caused a "Robert Allen" and his wife, Bridget, to be recorded as Robert Ellis by mistake in an online search engine---based on photocopies of the original records and tracing the Allen family back to Kettlestone Parish.
Well, time for me to get back to work.
Hope this helps.
Mike Ellis
