Looking for help on the Middleton surname to find the immigrant ancestor

I'm looking for help finding the ancestry of John Middleton, b 1713 (not proven, from another tree at Myheritage.com ) died 1765, married Margaret Ainsworth in Philadelphia PA. I have been told he may have come across on the ship the Eagle's Wing, since his son came down from Lancaster County, PA to Charlotte County VA with the Caldwell colony, and David Caldwell their leader supposedly came to America on that ship.I have no connections in the UK to do the research on their side of the Atlantic to see where they came from.
Any help is appreciated.

Have you considered taking an autosomal DNA test?  Many people carrying Middleton ancestors in the US are descended from "Richard Middleton of Barbados" - surprisingly they still share traces of DNA in common.  This could be an avenue to explore, Richard has many active descendants in the genealogy community.

Here is a link to a family history on Richard Middleton that might be useful (have not looked at it myself):  https://familysearch.org/eng/library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=titledetails&titleno=44&disp=The+Middleton+family%2C+including+Myddel
