Hello all,
I am looking into the Dent family of Yarm, Yorkshire and am kindly asking if anyone has any further information on this family.
The most prominent line of this family stems down to the Dent family who acquired Sudeley Castle in 1837.
Burke shows the ancestry of the family as:
John Coucher Dent of Sudeley Castle, son of Thomas Dent and Mary Coucher.
Thomas Dent, son of John Dent, of Worcester, merchant, b in 1751, son of Lawrence Dent of Yarm co. York, with no further detail. (Burke)
Lawrence Dent is potentially the man baptised in 1712 in Yarm, son of Lawrence Dent and Sarah Robinson.
Lawrence Dent Sr. was baptised in 1671 in Yarm, the son of Francis Dent.
Walford's, The County Families of the United Kingdom, described John Coucher Dent of Sudeley Castle as descended from "the ancient family of Dent, of Yarm co. York."
The coat of arms of this family is described as:
Erm., on a bend, nebuly, az. three lozenges, of the field.
I cannot seem to find much more on the ancestry of this family.
I thought there might be a connection to the Dents of Ormesby who have been situated there since the 16th century.
Their pedigree is recorded stretching back to a James Dent living in 1580.
The Dents of Ormesby's coat of arms is described as:
Argent, on a bend Sable three lozenges Ermine, a crescent for difference.
It is noted this coat of arms was the same as those used by Roger Dent of Newcastle.
If anyone could provide any assistance it would be most appreciated. Thank you.
