Have you seen the new home page and menu changes?

Hi WikiTreers,

We just released three new changes:

First, the main WikiTree home page has been tightened-up so that the bottom section with the Photo of the Week, Collaborative Profile of the Week, and other new features are more noticeable.

For new visitors, the home page will look the same as it used to. But for us, members who are logged-in, the stuff about joining and some of the extra white space is gone. This way there is more room for the current features.

Second, there is a simple new form for creating a project.

This makes it easy to start what we have been calling "Free-Space Projects." Some of these projects will go on to become large community collaborations, but every project has to start somewhere. This is where they start.

We're hoping this form encourages more members to collaborate in creative ways.

It will also help Abby Glann (WikiTree's coordinator of projects) streamline how projects get off the ground and how other members find out about them.

Third, there are some additions to the pull-down menus at the top of every page for logged-in members.

The link to the aforementioned create-a-project form is "New Project" under "Add."

The tool for finding family members who aren't connected to the global family tree is linked as "Unconnected People" under "Find."

The flowchart for deciding what to do when a member is causing problems or doing damage is linked as "Problems w/ Members" under "Help."

Plus, the Add, Find, and Help menu items now have pop-up titles that describe the link item in more detail when you hover over them, i.e. leave the cursor on the link without clicking. If you find these pop-up titles helpful we'll add them to the My WikiTree and person menus as well.

Please post here if you have questions, suggestions, or other comments.

Onward and upward,

Chris

Attempting to start a free-space project page and received the message: Failed token check; forcing preview.

How do I overcome the issue?

Note: The project page I'm attempting to create is for the already existing category Chronicles of New France, a sub-category of Canadian History.

Have you tried saving the page again? I often get that message if I have had the edit page open too long. I just copy everything I've put in to be safe so I don't lose any of it, then hit the save button again.
Thanks Abby! I copy/pasted into a new tab of the creation page and it worked.

I just noticed the new home page.  Thanks!  I no longer have to scroll down to enter a search name, my preferred way of starting wikitree.

I've already used the New Project form, and it was so quick and easy to start a new project! I think that'll really encourage people to start one up. I look forward to seeing what collaborations come out of that. :)
