G2G: Challenge of the Week: Help repair or resolve broken links

Hi WikiTreers!

imageWikiTree+ data analysis has found thousands of broken links inside profiles.

Sometimes it's just because there is a typo in the URL. More often, the webpage or website has moved, or no longer exists.

Each one needs personal attention from someone like you.

We want to correct/update the link if possible. If an updated link can't be found, there may be a copy of it on Archive.org's Wayback Machine. If nothing can be found, delete the link but retain the rest of the source/reference and the name of the website.

Fixing bad links helps genealogy researchers, of course, but there is also an important side benefit. Broken links make WikiTree look unreliable and out-of-date. Google ranks all our ancestor profiles lower in search results because of them.

Will you help fix some of these?

Please post an answer below if you'll be joining us, or if you have questions. Thank you so much!

~Surprisingly, both of these profiles have managers. So I have noted "Bad Links" in the text, removed the leading https://, and am sending a message to the profile manager. If there is something different I should do, let me know.

Profiles of Nancy Unknown (Unknown-694041) and Jeramiah Willis  has links to a domain that is no longer valid. Links are now going to 72.15.246.187. It appears this domain used to belong to the Register of Deeds Services in Craven, North Carolina, USA. I've gone to their website and searched for the deed details but no joy. I've googled and researched Ancestry, looking for the deeds but also no joy.  What do I do?

I have found links to these records on FamilySearch and added them in the notes for Jeremiah Willis. Feel free to work on it, or I will get back to it later in the week.
