How can I add someone to a trusted list but give them "read only" access?

Hi,

In the past I've added relatives to the trusted list and they've managed to enter false information and corrupt the tree. Having spent so much time and effort to check my information to ensure that my tree is reliable, I'm now reluctant to add anyone.

Most people are happy to be given read access only as all they want is to look up family info. When they have any info they are able to contribute they pass it to me and I do the editing, having checked the facts as far as possible,

I would give them the access they want (never to your personal profile though).  But vigilantly check your Family Activity Feed and you can see if they have done any editing to these profiles.  If that is the case, you can verify the editing.  If they are bad edits, ie; wrong or unverified information, links to family trees, aren't in-line with the Wikitree style guide, etc., you can set the profile back to where it was by using the changes log.  Then remove them from the trusted list.

Ruvane, are you talking about 1) profiles of living people, 2) deceased but under 200 years old or 3) older than 200 years? There are different privacy levels for each of those. For the second one, you can make it green which will allow people to view but not edit the biography.

Like Jilliaine mentioned, there are also a variety of privacy settings for living people, like you can make just their family tree public or just their biography public, etc.

I share your frustration, Ruvane. There should be two levels of Trusted List: ① update access and ② read-only access.

As we are a collaborative tree I do not think that is possible or even feasable.  We all share ancestors and work on them together. You can invite others to view however only those profiles with the white open, green trusted or yellow lock will they be able to see everything the 2 shades of orange and above are limited.
