Hello;   I am James William Masner, son of  William Maurice Masner, and Grandson of  Willie Alice Sanders Masner who was born in Kaufman, Texas in 1877.   Dad,  Grandmother and Grandfather have all passed away and I'm trying to answer some questions about his family.   Dad didn't talk about his family much.   He was adopted by Willie Alice Sanders and George Tavner Masner right after his birth.   He was told he was born November 4, 1926 in Ft Worth, Texas at St Mary's Hospital.   His Mother got his birth certificate in 1942 from Austin, Texas which shows Alice and George as the birth parents.   His Mother told him that he was adopted because he was the thirteenth child of  Vera Dodson from Dallas, Texas and that they could not take care of him.   His Mother died in 1947 in Ft Worth and his Dad died in 1946 in Clovis, New Mexico.   Dad said he had a cousin named Dewey Masner who also lived in or near Ft Worth.   Dad never tried to find his real family according to my Mother but she did say she knew he wanted to.   I precipitated in the DNA program through Ancestry.com which shows he is related to his adopted Mother and her Father John but not his Dad (George Masner).   You could have knocked me over with a stick.   Wow!   I'm now looking for one of his cousins or aunts because I believe his Mother,  Alice, would have been past child bearing years at 49.   Perhaps you could help. Please contact me at any time. jwmasner@yahoo.com (435) 864-7324 Sorry to ramble on. Thanks you

From reading a little at Wikipedia, it's possible to conceive at age 49, but the likelihood of it happening is very low.

All children inherit mtDNA from their mother. Only the female children can pass it on to their children. You would have inherited mtDNA from your mother and she in turn would have inherited identical mtDNA from her mother. A mutation is possible, but not likely from what I have read in "Deep Ancestry, Inside the Genographic Project," by Spencer Wells.
