The Brookline Thursday Club still exists and in fact thrives. I am the President for last year and this year, a 2 year term that rotates through the membership. Tonight is our first meeting of the year. We have been in existence for 147 years, having been started in 1871 by Dr. Towle and some friends. We meet mostly 12 alternate weeks from November to April. There are 30 members. Members write and prepare a 45' to 1 hr talk about a subject of their choice, though preferably not about one's profession, religion or politics, every other year, and on the alternate years they host one of the meetings at their house. It is a very collegial group, most members try to make 75% of each year's meetings but travel, other commitments etc get in the way. Our dues are onerous!, just a year or two ago they were raised from $15/yr to $20. Fortunately, no one had to drop out for financial reasons.
Hope this provides a little insight into the workings of the club.
Regards,
David Brooks
