Hi everyone and thanks for joining in the Note-vember Challenge! (And if you haven't already, why not? Check out the challenge page for more information and to sign up.)

This week's themes are OPEN PROFILES and BORN IN NOVEMBER. To count for points, profiles need to fit one of these categories and you must post the profile to this thread before November 8. You don't need to start a new post for each notable, just edit your original post to add them.

Here's how the points work:

* 5 points for writing a biography for a Notable person. You can do this on existing profiles that don't have a biography, or create a new profile.
* 20 points for adding at least 10 people to a Notable person's family tree.
* 25 points for connecting a previously unconnected Notable person to the world wide tree.

Let's get started!

Great work, Dan!
wow!! Awesome.
Great job on these governors, Dan. I have a list of PA governors with links to their WikiTree profiles if you want that. I noticed that you had added the "notable" categorization and state seal for most of them. In case someone with their surname is interested in researching them, many of them have little or no information beyond birth, death and years as governor.

Moving along slowly as usual, but started with a new profile for Alice Brady (born November 2) - Academy Award winning actress.

http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Brady-1967

Got her bio up and sources, and working to add family members so that she can be potentially connected to the tree.

Good job, Scott!

OK - added 10+ profiles, of which there were 3 more notables. Her father was a famous stage producer. Her step-mother an actress. And her sister-in-law (married to her youngest half-brother) was also an actress. Moving along. No connection yet, but still lots of avenues to explore.

*UPDATE* Wish I could count the Mayor of Tahlequah as a Notable, but unfortunately he doesn't exactly fit the criteria. Regardless, her sister-in-law's sister married a native american who was the Mayor of Tahlequah on Indian Territory in Oklahoma around 1905. Looks like the family of Katherine Alexander (actress) was tied up all in and around the native american communities. Not sure if there's a project on native americans, but this set of profiles certainly would fit within that scope.

Added Actress Terry Farrell, who played Jadzia Dax from Star Trek DS9 - http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Farrell-1530 - born November 19, 1963 and wrote her bio.
And I've added 10 profiles to her tree, but no connections. So for the week, 2 notable profiles added, both with bios, and +10 profiles to each, and with the first there were 3 additional notable profiles involved (but no real bios on these). Total of 2*5=10 plus 2*20=40 or a total of 50 points. A decent start, but nothing the leaders should worry about.

I don't really understand the "open profiles" part - does it just mean anyone who has died? At any rate, I'm sticking to "born in November." And the projects I've undertaken in notables are mostly all musicians, so I'll keep to that, too.

Ike & Tina Turner were both born in November. Since that's 2 notables (w/bios) added, and they are connected to each other, I added 20 rather than 10 profiles. (Didn't connect them to the tree.) There was another notable added, not born in November, but with an open profile (I think), a man with whom Tina Turner had a baby before she married Ike Turner. He was not born in November. (Does that count?)

Ike Turner: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Turner-13219
Tina Turner: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bullock-2013
Raymond Hill: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hill-16357

Too bad I entered ragtime piano great Scott Joplin (born in November) awhile back. The most interesting part of that effort was when I found his father's Texas voter registration record. An emancipated slave, he was on the voter rolls in 1867.

Dwayne Allman: (http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Allman-525) was born in November and also died in November. He already had a profile, to which I added parents and brother Gregg back in August. I've added more than 10 additional profiles now, and successfully connected the Allman Brothers to the tree.

Harry Carroll: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Carroll-4056 Tin Pan Alley songwriter noted for "By the Beautiful Sea." Added profile & bio; added dozens of new profiles; eventually connected to tree

John Phillip Sousa: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sousa-182 - added profile & bio. It was not a short path, but Sousa's now connected, via abolitionist Gerrit Smith, also a notable. As a bonus, I also connected Smith to his first cousin, suffragist Elizabeth Cady Stantion (also born in November.) She & Smith were both connected to the tree, just not to each other.

Lewis Henry Morgan: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Morgan-10963 is one of my favorite 19th century thinkers, and it turns out he was born in November. Profile & bio have been posted. Connection should be accomplished shortly. (Or not: there's DOZENS of Thomas Morgans and John Morgans with NO DATES. Some small bit of WikiTree hell to work through it all. What happened to the rule that dates are required?) So, he's connected now, via his father who also has a Wiki page, is also a notable. Added more than 20 new profiles, as well as connecting to the tree. Father is Jedediah Morgan: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Morgan-10964

Mary Travers: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Travers-380 She is known as the Mary in Peter Paul & Mary, the folk trio. Two other connected notables; also added 30+ profiles. Gave up without connecting
Barry Feinstein (husband #2): http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Feinstein-79
Virginia Allin (mother): http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Allin-200

Ahmet Ertegun (http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ertegun-1) is a big name in the music industry. His brother, Nesuhi (http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ertegun-3) was too, enough to be inducted to the RnR Hall of Fame in 1991. He was born in November! Their father, Munir Ertegun (http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ertegun-2) is also notable as a Turkish artistocrat who served as a diplomat. 3 notables. >30 added (oddly, it led to Native Americans in Minnesota via one of Nesuhi's 4 wives)

Adolphe Sax, inventor of the saxophone, was born in November. Born Belgium, died Paris in the 1800s, he'll be a challenge to add on to. My contribution? Proposing a merge of Sax-26 and Sax-36, which probably doesn't count for much in this challenge.
