He was the Sub-Chanter of York Cathedral for 47 years, as well as several other titles. He had 2 wives: (1) Susannah Walker (b.1726, Kirkheaton, Yorkshire, d.1761, York). (2) Sarah Heald (b.1732c. Otley, Yorkshire, d.1777 York). He had 2 children by 1st wife: Susannah Rockett (b. 1756 Bingley, Yorkshire, d.1759 York) & Rev. Dudley Rockett Jnr. (b. 1757, York, d. 1797 York).

He is probably from the Rockett clan of the Yorkshire area, but there is a possibility that he is from the Somerset clan of Rockett's, as he left his nephew Thomas Rockett of Taunton, Somerset, UK a large part of his Estate in his Will, as both his own children & wive's were deceased.

Sadly, his parents are not named, and, as he did not attend a University and obtain a degree, his parents  are not found through that means, either.

Good luck!

Thank you very much Dale Gatherum-Goss ! I'll have a look at the link now.
You are very welcome and good luck!

By the way, here is the notice in the Gazette in relation to his estate:

https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/15729/page/1026

I've already found many newspaper articles about him (& 2 about his son) on "Findmypast". But they didn't have that one, so thanks again !

I've also bought a copy of his Will from the National Archives, which helped me piece together a fair bit. I know it's a long shot, but do you know anywhere I can look to see if a portrait was ever painted of him ? Have Googled it with no luck ! Sorry to be a bother.

Best Wishes,

YIB

Thank you Wayne Morgan. I did already find that baptism record, but am still not sure if it's him, as it says his father was a Shoemaker - I wondered how likely it was for his son to become so well established/ educated ?

Maybe he was a very successful shoemaker !
