Julie it may give you a place to work backward from.  Many of the name Russell descend from Hugh de Rozel,  a castle he recieved for his service with William of Normandy at the Battle of Hastings 1066.  It descends deRozel, Le Rozel, Russell.  I have some information if you get back far enough.

robert russell is a family name...mine goes to last born in scotland ,my ggg grandparents, david russell married mary crookston .their  son william ,born 1814 cadder i think,married janet forrest.they immigrated to tasmania, australia in 1857,hence my family resides here.

family saying related as cousins to lord john russell.cant find connection as yet.

the story is she married a widower and was rejected by her wealthy family...

maybe they came to australia because of this.
