Note-vember 2015 - Week 2, November 8-14

Note-vember was off to a roaring start last week. If you still have profiles that fit last week's themes, you can post them to last week's thread until the morning of November 9th and then I'll tally up the points

This week's themes are SERVED IN THE MILITARY and BORN BETWEEN 1914-1918 OR 1939-1945. To count for points, profiles need to fit one of these categories and you must post the profile to this thread before November 15. You don't need to start a new post for each notable, just edit your original post to add them.

Here's how the points work:

* 5 points for writing a biography for a Notable person. You can do this on existing profiles that don't have a biography, or create a new profile.
* 20 points for adding at least 10 people to a Notable person's family tree.
* 25 points for connecting a previously unconnected Notable person to the world wide tree.

Let's go!

in Requests for Project Volunteers by Erin Breen G2G6 Pilot (330k points)

Is the theme "SERVED IN THE MILITARY and BORN BETWEEN 1914-1918 OR 1939-1945" or  "SERVED IN THE MILITARY or BORN BETWEEN 1914-1918 OR 1939-1945"?

They are two separate themes, so one or the other. Thanks for pointing out the awkward wording.
I'm in. But this is a query/request rather than a start to the inventory.

Here's the thing: Whitney Houston has a profile, but isn't connected. Her mother, Cissy Houston, has a profile, too. She's also a notable, but not marked as that. Her profile is private, so you can't even add sources. I thought that, generally, notables were not supposed to have private settings. I'd like to ask that it be changed so I could add some relations. Thing is: Dionne Warwick fits this week's criteria and isn't on the tree yet; she's also Whitney's aunt. If that's a no-go, let me know, and I'll adjust my thinking.

Another question: I know it's a good idea for wiki-tree notables to be added as profile manager. My practice has been to add that manager to "major" notables, but not to every notable. Is that OK? How do others handle this?
Another comment/query: Miguel Trujillo doesn't have a wiki page. But he really should, and I'm declaring him a notable. Take a peek at one of the MANY articles about him, and see if you don't agree. He's an excellent match for Veteran's Day for sure.

If the guy who invented dimples on golf balls is notable, then this guy is definitely qualified! He definitely did something notable.
I changed Cissy's setting, Elizabeth. Just point those out when you find them and we can change them. Send a trusted list request, and we'll get you added.

As far as adding Notables as a PM, you can add it even on the "lesser" Notables, especially if you do not want to manage them.

Spiro Agnew - >10 Family

This is a long connection chain mostly weaving through the British Peerage, so its hard to determine which branches I've added 10 or more to, since they are all interlocked into a sort of family web! Any tips on how I should be trying to score these?

Connected Harold Edward Stassen http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Stassen-50, Gov & Capt, USN-R and added 20 people to his tree. The connection was interesting as he was son of 1st gen American & immigrant mother and married  the daughter of immigrants, there wasn't much to go on. Found the connection through his brother in law, a direct descendant of Myles Standish.

Connected Edmund Sixtus Muskie http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Muskie-1, a veteran born in 1914 and added 21 people to his tree.

I had some Unconnected Profiles from a previous attempt to connect Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli. I've added some relations and found a connection through Judy's ex-husband's ex-wife's ex-husband Bud Westmore, Hollywood makeup artist. They're all connected now. I added 58 total profiles, mostly in the Westmore family on the Isle of Wight.

  1. David Rose (1910-1990), WWII veteran
  2. Martha Raye (1916-1994)
  3. Bud Westmore (1918-1973) makeup artist
  4. George Westmore (1879-1931), makeup artist and 16th The Queen's Lancers, 2nd Boer War,

It was a very busy week, and my wife and I took a mini-vacation - so haven't completed any this week - but will aim for a better week next time.
