Week of November 9th Connectors Update

Hi Connectors!

connectors.gif

It was mentioned in our ideas thread that a weekly update of some sort to track where we are with connections would be nice. I have been updating the Project page each week, and we've been sitting around 67%-67.4.... to be exact. This week we crossed that .4 point to .51, enough to round up to 68% :-) I wonder if we can do some connecting using the Unconnected category or our own Unconnected lists and get us fully over that 68% mark? I will post again next week to give y'all an update. In the meantime, let's see what we can do!

What are you working on this week?

(A great way to add to our connections would be to participate in the Note-vember challenge, connecting some of the Notables hanging out in the Notables Unconnected category.)

Is a person listed as Unconnected only if they are not connected to anyone else? If there are a husband and wife, for example, and they have neither children or parents listed, would they be "unconnected"?

Hi S,

A person is Unconnected if they and the rest of their tree is not connected to the main WikiTree tree-that 68% up there. You can see this easily by scrolling to the bottom of a profile. If it has a blurb about being connected to AJ Jacobs, HRM Queen Elizabeth, Liza Kudrow, and Kevin Bacon, then that profile is connected. If there isn't that blurb, then it isn't, and we need to work on doing so by adding family members via blood relationships and marriage until we can find a point where we connect into existing profiles. There are plenty that are not connected to anyone at all-no parents, siblings, spouses, etc, but most have some family attached to them-they just aren't attached to our main tree.
Thanks for the explanation, Abby!

I try to check my own watchlist regularly to pare down the unconnected among the profiles I manage or imported.  Most of them occurred on initial import and were often siblings where the parents did not have birth/death dates or estimates.     (I wonder if I took care of all my own you may jump a percentage point or two!)

I've added a few records from the surnames I study who are notable (wikipedia entries) and posted on G2G for help in getting them connected.   Interesting especially to explore new areas where I am less familiar with the resources (such as England).

Everything we do helps, Michael. My own Unconnected list needs trimming. I try to work on it a little each week. There's always something to do around the Tree!

Still working on Henry Louis Gates at the moment and his numerous cousins who are currently unconnected. I'm sure there is a connection somewhere - just haven't found it yet.

Thanks, Scott! I have been there before with Questlove...there has to be a connection somewhere but it seems like it's a never ending search. In fact, I think QL is still unconnected.

Quote> Still working on Henry Louis Gates

Just saw this old message. I have worked on GATES tree before so I'm pretty sure I will be able to connect him to the global wikitree.

Not too long ago I adopted his REDMAN ancestor through which GATES joined the SAR society.

But I did a quick search for his full name & no matches came up.

So can you direct me to the GATES profile please ?

Here you go:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Gates-1834

And he is now connected to the global tree. :)
I would like to help.

I have him in my Redman database.

Which surnames are you working on ?

If I have them, I will add info.
I have not been in his tree in awhile, so I don't recall where I may have left off. The vast majority of the profiles should be open access, so please feel free to update any with new information. If you encounter one that is not open, please send me a trusted list request and I should be able to add you on. If you would like to adopt some or all of them, let me know that as well.

Thanks!

I'm Note-vembering this month, this week I'm focusing on the British Peerage and landed families since this weeks theme is "served in the military" and the majority of these families had military links. Only about 1 in every 10 of the profiles i've added this week have counted for the challenge but most are notable in some way and ALL of them are connected (usually in multiple ways!) :)

Last weekend I was able to connect a coworker for whom I had added dozens of profiles, so that felt like a big win!

This week a fourth or fifth cousin has joined, so I'm adding her ancestors that link to several lines already on WikiTree so that she can work backwards in time to meet those connections.

I see several scattered profiles on my watchlist from our attempts to connect notables like Liza Minnelli, but I look forward to connecting a few hundred free people of color from Darke County, Ohio. That will be a great addition to the tree - I think I'll start a G2G post for help.

I am trying to connect profiles from Alia, Sicilia to my husband's Centanni family which is already part of our global tree.

Oh, Italy connections are always a plus. Thanks, Sharon!

My entries focus on dutch profiles, I found the "Strijbos" tree that needs connecting but so far only added to my own unconnected list. I did connect a string of 20-odd profiles of "Huijser"s so the list is back to 2 pages, indeed a big win!

Nice! Thanks, B.W.J.

If the connectors would like the use of an online spreadsheet similar to excel that people can collaborate on WITH chat, feel free to make another tab on the one we use for Data Doctors. It should be easy enough to add an unconnected.

I'm now out of the rabbit hole of connecting Johnny Hallyday, (a French singer who died recently).

Now working on Canadian history: a connection for Joseph-Louis Montcalm - this will also connect Louis de Buade and Jean Talon as they are all linked together.
