In about 50 seconds we added another 30 profiles.  Wow.

In six months, (since May 18th) we added 1,000,000.  Wow

Since the 10 million mark back in May, the site has averaged ~250 profiles / hour, or almost 6000 profiles / day. There are definitely more and less active times each day, but 30 profiles in a minute wouldn't be unreasonable for a peak posting time.

JN, it would be a fun blog post to share some of the stats you've figured out if you'd be interested in doing that!
Eowyn, that could be fun. Is there someone to contact about it?
Yes. Me :). Shoot me an email at eowyn at wikitree.com and we can talk about it.
And what percentage of all these new profiles are duplicates?

Seems like as soon as I clean up and correct a set of PGM profiles, someone comes along, uploads a GEDCOM and [pick a profile] is not only duplicated but has incorrect parents, spouses and children.... AGAIN. So I find it difficult to celebrate a million "new"'profiles.
Oops. Big oops.

We've been over-counting because merged profiles weren't excluded: http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/215810/think-currently-have-million-people-wikitree-nope-million
Chris, I know how this feels. I work in science, and some there's always *that day* when you discover some systematic error or bias in the previous several months of your data. But after there's the appreciation that it was caught and not left uncorrected. Way to go!

The growth of WikiTree continues to amaze me, yet it's still just scratching the surface of even those who have lived in the past 100 years. It also surprises me just how linear the growth has been for the past 4½ years.

I'd love to see some in-depth analysis of WikiTree data... rates of profile creation; rates of profile mergers; average profiles added per member (manually vs GED) etc... (yup... I'm a scientist / datajunkie)

Here's a graph that I cobbled together from spreadsheet that I've been updating occasionally:

Graph showing the increase in WikiTree profiles and contributors / genealogists

By the way... did the admins ever address the sudden drop in contributors / members / WikiTree genealogists back in August/September? I'm just curious... guessing that it was purging of abandoned or "orphaned" accounts...

Many thanks for the graph and data. Am adding my relatives and learning alot about family connections.
Hi JN.

Just saw this post. Awesome! Thanks for doing this!

Regarding the sudden drop in contributors a few months ago, yes, you're exactly correct. We deleted a bunch of member accounts for people who never did anything. This is something we now do every month.

Did I read that we had 9 Million in Jan?  We added over 2 Million profiles this year?

15 Million in 2016, we can do it!

I added several yesterday when I found information that let me go back one more generation on my children's maternal line.

And yet, the number of views on a G2G post rarely gets past double figures.

So is any headway being made, or is the amount of work needed further outstripping the effort available?

Here is a post from Oct. 18, 2010: "WikiTree About to Reach 500,000 Profiles"

Then on March 10, 2011: "WikiTree Reaches One Million Profiles"
