Format for place names or location names?

This profile has the locations in state, county, then city order.  It seems backwards to me, but on the other hand, I am just glad the information is there.  I found this info on place names: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Location_Fields but it doesn't really answer my question.  Do we have a standard order format for place names?  This backwards information might not show on Google searches, I guess.  Is this something that should be rearranged in city, county, and state order?

This question was asked back in 2014 HERE.  Although style guidelines don't specifically address it, the examples show that place name go from smaller to larger jurisdictions, with everything spelled out (not NY but New York).

For English speaking countries, it would be something like:Tiny Town, Middle County/Parish, State/Province, Country.  It might be different for countries with different types of jurisdictions, but it should still be small to large, ending with Country.

The question keeps coming up, and perhaps the style guidelines should be expanded.

Good idea, Vic - I agree that the style guidelines should definitely address this!  As a side note, the Category names in the Regions hierarchy do it precisely in the style you outlined.

Kitty, I don't think it will make any difference in google searches - order of the search terms is not relevant.
