Can someone please change the privacy settings on these orphaned profiles from open to private.

In working on some unsourced Canadian profiles, I came across an orphaned GEDCOM of this family from Newfoundland. These family members are all probably living, and I don't want to adopt the profiles in order to change the setting, so could someone with the magic key do this please. Thanks!

The sad truth is only profiles that are of those who passed can be on here without a manager. If you are sure that they are still living then the only way to keep them on here is to have someone adopt them.

Laurie, Dale is absolutely right about living profiles being deleted from WikiTree if they are (or become) orphans.

There is another solution, though.  If there is any project that they might fit then that project could become the profile manager, in which case they would not be orphans.

If you can identify a possible project they might belong to then you can write to the project leader and ask them to adopt the profiles with the project as manager.

The other thing you can do is nothing - literally!  Just don't put any information at all in them - especially not a birth date that would automatically designate them as living and leave them alone.  Perhaps a family member will someday come forward to adopt them..
Thanks you two. My concern is that at least one of the profiles probably has a birth date in the 1980s. I think it should be deleted if there's no way to make it private. I think there have been cases in the past where people have found their profiles on WikiTree and been quite upset by it. You're right Gaile, we could do nothing, but is that WikiTree policy?
I saw many that were probably born less than 100 years ago and, with no other information than their birth year, they would be private.

I understand WikiTree policy as it applies to living persons and I know that if a person has a birth year entered that is less than 100 years old and has no other information entered that indicates the person is not living, then WikiTree automatically makes the profile private.

The only thing is, just because someone was probably born less than 100 years ago does not mean that they are still living.  You might be able to find death information for some of these, in which case the profiles could stay here.  I just hate to see valuable information being lost because the person might be living and there is no profile manager

I wish we had a better way of handling these situations that could preserve the information.  I don't uinderstand why the profiles couldn't simply be made unlisted, rather than deleted, and then whenever the 100 year date arrives, they could be automatically listed again.
Thanks again, Gaile. I'll see what I can do. Your last idea makes sense to me. If anyone can make that happen, you can!
Since that profile you highlighted has essentially no content (just a name and connections to family members -- the content displayed in the biography is just meaningless gedcom clutter), there's little harm in its not being private...
I suspect I'm showing my age here, but I used to keep such information private (and still try to). But I suspect you're right. In this day and age, it probably doesn't matter.
Umm, Laurie, I think you're ascribing far more power than I have to me!  I can't make anything happen here that you or any other member can't.

About age, I'm willing to be that I've been 21 longer than you have - my birth certificate was issued in 1943, but please don't forget that has nothing to do with my age - I was pre-conceived.  My three grandsons are all older than me, but that's their problem, not mine.
LOL. I have to remember that one!
scratch that...
