The World War II Project is now up and running http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:World_War_II. It is a sub project of the Military and War project and other sub projects will be added in time like  Vietnam War and the Korean War.

The  project pages are really easy to navigate around, if you start here http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:World_War_II_Resource_page you can find any of our many free space pages. If you have a interest in WWII or have profiles that fit into this project and would like to join let one of the leaders know we would love to have more members.

Thanks to Terry, this project is amazingly easy to navigate given its size. It is a huge project that took a lot of time to put up and I hope you will take a look. We want to honor your World War II ancestors! We also want to honor the profiles of the POWs and death march participants.

This is the first Military and War project where amateur troop videos have been available. This is a very interesting project and we hope you will join In. Terry has made s great template for the project profiles!

Terry I would like to thank our founding members for their hard work in setting up this project with a special thanks to Mary Ricardson for her excellent work in putting up the space pages for each country. These pages serve as the project base. Mary worked hard with the leaders to get those pages up. She also added a war memorial page which is quite moving. Thanks to all our founding members and a special thanks to Mary!!

Great news, Terry!!!

I have copied the sample template to my scratch pad and will systematically go through all profiles I manage to replace the military recognition template with the World War II template for those who served in that War.

I have a question for you,  The Holocaust Project should probably remain as a separate project in its own right, rather than becoming a sub-project of World War II because of the way we structured the category for it - it is a subcategory of Genocides which, in turn, is a subcategory of World History.  What do you think?  Also, should I perhaps add one of the World War II categories to the Holocaust category ,,, or maybe should we ask this question of the categorization project?

Yes I agree Gaile the Holocaust project should be a separate  project in its own right most defiantly, I think it should be.We have added links to some of your Holocaust categories on our free space pages, as the Holocaust was such a big part of World War II.

You could ask in the Categorization Project if you would like, but I think add our World War II, Germany category to your project I take it that is the category you mean?

It's great we finally have a World War II Template to add to these deserving profiles :)
Actually, I didn't have a particular World War II category in mind to add to the Holocaust category because I'm clueless about where to put it.  Although, of course, most of the Holocaust activities occurred in Germany, there were several other countries that were also heavily involved in it - Czechoslavakia, Poland, and Russia had ghettos and concentration camps, Holland and Hungary had ghettos, there were also victims and survivors in France, and Germany's allies - Italy and even Japan - had victims, survivors, and heroes.  In addition, England, Canada, United States, Australia, South Africa, Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina were places where survivors emigrated.

Maybe it should be independent of any one country and just be immediately under the main World War II category.  I'll put it wherever you think it belongs - you'd know that far better than I would!

World War II category does sound the best one to add, so far there is only http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Holocaust_Victims_at_Ravensbrück added to the World War II category for  the Holocaust that I could find

Oops!  I don't know how that category got to World War II, but it probably doesn't belong there.  It is the lowest level subcategory of the Holocaust!!!  I hardly think you'd want all the lowest level subcategories in there.  There are currently about 50 subcategories under Holocaust -> Holocaust Victims, of which Ravensbruck is one.  There is a subcategory for each ghetto, concentration camp, extermination camp, or other place in which victims met their deaths.

On your advice, I'll add the World War II category to the Holocaust category and, with your permission, I will also remove the Ravensbruck category from it.
I am not big into categories:) our other two project  leaders Terri Rick and Paula J take care of the categories  but I agree the Holocaust should be added to the World War II category and move the lower level category.Members add categories not really knowing much about the categories or which ones should be added to profiles
THANX much, Terry - will do!
I agree with you both. The Holocaust project should remain as it is and not be a sub of World War II. Also, the categories should link. World War II upper level categories are by country. I will get with you and see how you want to coordinate the categories but we will of course maintain the current category structure of your project.
THANX, Paula.  You don't have to get with me about it, though - I'm easy - all I need is to be told what to link to from the Holocaust Category!  Just let me know where you want me to put it - this could be a golden invitation for you <grin>,  Seriously, though, I don't know much about all this stuff and am thrilled to have an expert to defer to.
One last thing, Terri Rick has done an excellent job of structuring our categories. We now have a system for structuring all military war categories, including all military units.

Please check with us if you need a military category so that we can maintain the struvture. We are in the process of writing guidelines for the help page. Righy now you can find the category guidelines on the War of 1812 project page. Thanks!
It's almost 3:00 am here so I will get back to you tomorrow. I am not the expert - that would be Terri Ricks so let me check with her. She has put a lot of work into the structural organization and we are very grateful to her and lucky to have her!

We are also lucky to have Terry for her amazing ability to bring a sense of reality to our pages. Without her talented use of images, it would just be words on a page. In a project this big, that would get old quick. The mind would just dull over because there is so much to take in.

Thanks to Terri to organization and Terry for design and navigation!!
I added a link to the main Holocaust page.  And I notified Eowyn.
Hello Gaile I talked to Terri she said to link your main Holocaust category to the World War II category and remove the lower level category off the World War II category page
