Was there a minimum age limit before someone would be listed in the city directory?

My guess is about 18, does that make sense? Am I thinking too much in the here and now?

I think 18 is about right.  I have found college students in city directories and young people who were living one their own.  Some 17-18 year olds out of school and with jobs are also shown.
