Passenger Lists of William Penn's ships

It is claimed by the descendants of James Moon that he immigrated to Pennsylvania aboard one of William Penn's ships in 1682. It is known Moon was in PA in 1688 when he purchased land in Falls Township, Bucks County. Is there any way I can find a passenger list or other record to confirm or disprove this claim?

Thanks for lists. Not finding James Moon on any of them. If he was not a member of Penn's company, any way I can find when he did arrive in PA? He was in Bucks County by 1688.
I have Prickett ancestors who have been said to have arrived on the Amity, but have seen no documentary evidence -- would love to find some!!  (first names John Josiah Zachariah, & possibly Priscilla and Susannah).

The Welcome Society currently does not recognize William Moon as a passenger:

Not William Moon -- James Moon

Hi Shirley,

I've been doing a lot of work with the William Penn fleet.  My go-to source are the two volumes of "Penn's Colony" "Passengers and Ships Prior to 1684" and "Welcome Claimants, Proved, Disproved, and Doubtful".

Passengers & Ships lists a John Moon, but no James Moon.  He was a "linendraper of Bristol", a First Purchaser, and said to be a close friend of William Penn, let out of prison in 1682 on condition he remove to Pennsylvania immediately.

"Welcome Claimants" shows James Moon was mentioned in the will of William Crosedale in 1715, but no information on his arrival.

Passenger lists are very spotty.  Port books showing cargo shipped are more complete, but only list those who shipped goods not the passengers.

Do you know if there is a connection between James Moon and John Moon?  I can look at this more over the weekend if you like.

Hi Andrea, Thanks for such detailed information.

It has been claimed that James Moon and John Moon were brothers and that both witnessed the will of William Crosedale. This being the basis for the claim. However, James Moon-206 died in 1713, so could not have been the James connected with Crosedale in 1715.

There is a record of James purchasing land in Falls Township, Bucks County in 1688. Both his death and that of his wife, Joan, are recorded in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania; Marriages, Births and Deaths, 1699-1788; Collection: Quaker Meeting Records; Call Number: MR-PH 170; p 74. I found this collection on ancestry.com. The births, marriages and deaths of quite a few of James Moon's descendants are listed therein.

As Mags would put it, I got sucked down the rabbit hole of the Moon family when I was working on some people with "Unk" as surname. Found a really tangled mess with not much work done; many, many duplicates; no sources. As an Arborist and member of PIP, my attentions were engaged and here I am.

If James Moon was not one of William Penn's company, any way I can find out when he arrived and on what ship? He was here prior to 1688.

Thanks for help.
Love the rabbit hole :)  So many interesting things down there!

He may very well have been part of the 1681/1682 arrivals with William Penn, just not showing up on any of the existing lists.  My Carver family is an example of that.  Their daughter was born in Pennsylvania in 1682, but I find no trace of them on any manifest and I've no idea which ship they actually arrived on.

I would not discount the claim that they "came with William Penn" even though you aren't finding him on the 'approved' lists.  I'll poke around some this morning and see if I can find anything other early records for him.

His profile is looking really good, thank you for your excellent work on the family.

I was able to rehome one of your duplicate John Moon's (Moon-937).  Of course, there are now another set of duplicate profiles to resolve.  Off I go down an adjoining rabbit hole ...

Thanks Andrea for helping out on this family. Glad you found a home for Moon-937. Aren't rabbit holes wonderful? But sometimes I feel a little like Alice.
