Thank you for answering. This marriage certificate is the only documented information I have of my great grandparents. Charles died when my grandmother, Maude Stella Wheeler, was a baby and her mother, Ida, placed her in the Franklin County Children's Home in Columbus, Ohio. Twenty-five years ago when I went to Columbus a gov. official told me that the record was sealed and no copy of the adoption papers could be given me, but he said that it listed Ida, my GGM, as "indigent".( Now when I check they tell me strangely that the records are gone.) Ida, according to a paper my grandfather left our family, remarried to a railroad employee, Samuel T Bowman, and moved to Cleveland, Ohio. She returned to the orphanage to get her daughter, Maud Stella Wheeler but was told she was already adopted out by a family surnamed "Townsend". Maude was given contact information for her mother when she was 21 years old but being bitter never made contact. I have found one death record dated June 24, 1879 for a Charles Wheeler born in 1844, whose father's name was Thomas Wheeler, in Green Lawn Cemetery records in Columbus. Cause of death listed is sunstroke. Althought the dates match the events of this story I can't confirm this is the correct Charles Wheeler. Has anyone in the Wheeler, Hurbaugh, Bowman or Townsend families ever heard this story?
