free online genealogy course

The University of Strathclyde in Scotland is offering a free web-based course about genealogy through FutureLearn.

The course starts on 14 March 2016, and requires about 4 hours of study per week for 6 weeks, during which time tutors will be available to discuss topics with the hundreds of people participating (about 1,500 have registered so far).

For more information and to apply, see:

Dubious as to the reason it's free? They make their money at the end of the course by offering to sell you an optional printed certificate of participation, and will then advertise taking your learning further with their Masters degree in "Genealogical Palaeographic & Heraldic Studies".

I am unaffiliated, just a satisfied customer of previous FutureLearn courses on agriculture, statistics, and programming, and am looking forward to taking part in this one.
