My grandmother, Gertrude Hillary was adopted by her uncle Tom Hillary. She doesn't appear in his family census data until 1910. I believe her mother was Tom Hillary's sister, Ellen, AKA Nellie. She was born in St Marys, Perth, Ontario on 18 Sep 1863. She moved with her parents to Kankakee, IL and while there worked at the Kankakee Insane Asylum. Family legend has it that she met William Eastman there and he was the father of Gertrude. Nobody is left among the living to tell us what became of her.
