Try  familysearch.org  They have extensive information. Do you have a person in mind who you want to research and a birth, marriage and or death year? Is the location in a particular county and or city in Ireland?
Hello Frank. Yes, I've tried familysearch.org, but no success. I have been searching for years, even visiting the Emerald Isle, but no luck so far. I have dates, names, etc and a county, but not a specific parish. I find the sites for Ireland are not searchable, and they don't have solid info, like BMD's.

You could try posting a question or two at wikitree.com to see how that goes. It sounds like you have a lot of basic information with respect to dates, names and counties. Is Mayo one of the counties in your data?

Hi,

Yes I've had lots of success using the Irish census records here is the link for that

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

Frank is correct Family search is good and you should be able to use it very similar to BMD's, maybe your looking at the wrong page, here is the link for that.

https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1&countryId=1927084

The same info is available on the pay site and is a little better in the way you can see who married who (well, who has the same referance numbers anyway)

other sites are pay sites not so good :-(

like http://www.irishorigins.com/

http://www.emeraldancestors.com/ is good if your doing Northern Ireland

 and www.Findmypast.ie

But none are as good as visiting the Emerald Isle.

http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html is a favorite of mine for specific counties.

Hello Everyone

Thank you for all the help. I've been on the nationalarchives.ie as well, and no luck. I've recently registered with www.irelandxo.com, to see if this latest research site will be of some help. It is the next best thing than going over there myself at this point in time.

I'll let you know if anything comes out of it.

@ Frank - not county Mayo,, county Laois, which was county Queens at the time my ancestors lived there.

I have found this highly sucessful for my Irish family from county Antrim.

I also recommend family search.org.  I found my great grandparents and their parents, dating back to about 1830 - 40. They were in the northern part (Ulster).

I found many records with my last name (Nally) on this site. I went back to the US census records and cemetary records, and was able to track down more information, which helped in narrowing down the search.
