Searching info on William A Hankins b 1822-1831 Tennessee

Question

Searching for my great grandfather's mother father, He is a descendant from the Cobb family and was raised by slaves.. was a mention of Georgia but not sure if that is where we are connected to Cobb family ....   He was born in Tennessee and moved into Alabama into Mississippi... found him on census 1870 and 1880 in Morgan and Somerville Alabama married to Catherine Shelton. 1900-1910 in Mississippi to Emily Green.  States in his pension papers that he was living in Lawrence County Alabama when he enlisted in Civil War but I have been unable to find he and his first wife in that area.  1862. ...   states his father could be Isaac but I am beginning to think this is not correct..  Isaac was born in South Carolina but his family were stated to be from Tennessee.   If he were living in Mississippi 1850, his first wife could be Mary H  Moon but can not find  any information or if this is his first wife, if I could locate her then most of our information would be found.    Help!!!

I found a thread on Ancestry that may help. Sounds like the same info.

As copied from an email thread between the two people:

"Thanks for the response. Is W A Hankins first wife's name Margaret McClure? I don't know. Do these dates fit with your data. ie. Born 1826 in TN. Lived in AL where he enlisted in Cavalry in 1862, Company surrendered in 1864. he married, second, in 1865. I suppose this means his first wife, Margaret? died before the 2nd marriage. He was supposed to have had 7 children by the first wife.

If we estimate that he may have married, 1st, at about, age 22, the marriage to Margaret would have been in 1848 or so. Probably in TN or AL. He could have been married 16-17 years before 1865 when he married his 2nd wife, Catherine Shelton."

Not sure, but I think someone has already debunked that one, but the rest of the information seems to be in conjuncture to what we have.  Do you know or have heard of a Luke Solomon Hankins?  He is a 2-3 cousin and trying to link him, DNA says he is or a strong possibility of being a brother or son of my William..   searching desperately for that connection.
