Chris,
To address your question regarding the the relationship of Dolor and Nicholas Davis:
I see that some people on Wiki have found the "Nicholas son of Dolor Davies baptised" in Bexhill, Sussex, England in 1629, which I had discovered in June, 2021.
I had to pay the East Sussex Record Office ("ESRO") to obtain this baptism record and the records of his children John, Mary I and Mary II.
I had to get ESRO's express permission to publish Nicholas' original handwritten parish record image. To date, I have not been able to find any English or American documents proving that he migrated to America.
My 8th great-grandfather, Quaker Nicholas Davis, lived in Barnstable, MA from 1650 to 1670, and in Newport, RI from 1671 to 1762. There is absolutely no documented evidence that "my" Nicholas or his family had any interaction with Dolor or Dolor's children even though they lived near each other in Barnstable.
I do know that I am related to Dolor through DNA testing. Descendants of Dolor and I share a common ancestor who would have been Dolor's parents, grandparents, or his great grandparents. My current working theory is that "my" Nicholas was Dolor's cousin.
In conclusion, although Dolor Davis had a son, Nicholas Davis, in Bexhill, England in 1629, no further documents have been found to prove his existence in America or to show that he had any children.
The parentage of "my" Nicholas Davis, of Barnstable and Newport is unknown, but he and Sarah (Ewer) Blossom Davis did have the following children, all born in Barnstable, between 1650 and 1670: Samuel, Simon (my 7th great-grandfather), Hannah, Sarah, Thomas, and Mercy Davis.
I just completed 25 years of researching both Dolor and "my" Nicholas Davis, and have published these results. If you or anyone have further questions, please contact me at: rootsquestpress@yahoo.com.
Kind regards,
Dr. Frank "Mike" Davis
PS. All of the documents that I discovered regarding Dolor's family in England between 1614 and 1634 show that his given name was always spelled "Dolor".
