Could this be August's US Arrival record?

Hello everybody,

I hope your day is going well! I have another question for you all! I have been going back through some of the sources that I found on my great-great grandfather, August Hruska, and found some things that don't quite add up to me, especially after actually finding some Czech census records that include him in them.

The one that I am wondering about now, whether I should add it back in or not, is the Baltimore arrival record from 1887 where he came with an 11-year old daughter(?), Anna.

 Here is the link:

This seems to contradict the 1880 Czech Census record that shows August with wife, Katarina and children Matej and Josef. If Anna was here than it would make sense as she would be the oldest.

Next we have the arrival record of Katerina and the rest of the family including young Jiri who incidentally dies before they make it to Baltimore. It stands to reason that if Katerina is bringing the family here, either August is established enough to bring them over or he is back working on the farm while they get out.

Finally, the evidence pointing against this not being right because of the presence of a daughter, especially one as old as Anna,is that in the 1900  US census Anna is not found and it says that Katerina bore 11 children of whom 3 are dead. Besides Jiri, two other children passed on before him one was Maria who was born in1888 and died by 1889 and an August Charles born about 1879 and died before the 1880 Czech census.

Does that make sense? Should I look for more evidence? I cannot decide.

All help would be appreciated.

Michael, I see that one of the children in the 1900 Census is named Anna, but she was born in 1894 in Ohio.  I'm wondering if there had been a child named Anna who came with her father and died here, after which the family named the next child born Anna.  I suppose it is possible that the census taker in 1880 made an error by not including Anna.  I have found many census errors in the United States.
Hey Gaile,

I am very torn on this because there is a lot of evidence against her being their child but my instinct says that that is my August Hruska's arrival record. If we had the 1890 US Census available and assuming the Hruska's had settled somewhere/weren't passed over it probably wouldn't be a mystery...

Do you have any idea who these people are?  Anna was born in 1877 in Bohemia and died in Cleveland.

Hi Maureen,

I have no idea who they are. As far as I know Anton is not a relative of mine but I have a feeling it is indeed my August in that arrival record although I do not know about Anna, still.

I am just suggesting Anna is not his daughter.  Maybe a cousin's child.

Also I found Gus playing baseball for Akron in 1909.  J. Hruska is on the team with him.
Okay yeah it would probably be a cousin's child unless Anton is a sibling of August's born before 1850. I am trying to find the 1857 Czech census for August now so this will at least clear up that much when it's found.

UPDATE: Cannot find Augustin in the 1857 Czech Census Record, at least not in Domazlice (the city)
