I have some great news! I got a present in the mail today as I received a certified General Register Office (GRO) copy of the birth record of a Thomas May born in the first quarter of 1864 in Dewsbury, England. I had a good feeling about this being my Thomas May as he was the only Thomas May matching within a reasonable time frame of the move to England. In the document, it declares that he was born of the twenty-fifth February 1864 Dawgreen, Dewsbury to Bryan May and Bridget May formerly McGinty. The birth was registered in March 1864.
Who else is listed with the same birthday in the same general location? Oh look, Thomas May in his death certificate!
With this fact confirmed, it leaves me with just a few pieces left to figure out in this particular nuclear piece of the May family. These include the following:
Are Bernard May and Michael May the same person?
Is Bernard May alive when the May family leaves for America?
What happened to Joseph May once they came to America? Was he born in England?
What about the other Mary Maye/Meay?
Slowly but surely, I am closing the knowledge gap on my May family!
