Jonas Weed profile disagreement between sources

Jonas Weed, 1630 Puritan Great Migration to Connecticut.  Anderson's featured profile:
Origin is unknown
Wife's name is Mary _____.
Also immigration year 1630, but ship unknown.

Some believe they know his parents, and that he married Mary Hoit/Hoyt.

Some believe he was aboard the Arbella

On Jonas Weed, early researchers got it wrong, and now those errors are multiplied online- FindaGrave, geni, and Family Data Collections.

Please help us out.  What do you do when there are conflicting sources?  Which sources are appropriate for pre-1700 profiles and for Puritan Great Migration Project profiles?

There can be no doubt that the monumental works of Robert Charles Anderson should be the overriding reference to providing sources for the period 1620-1635. His methodology in determining the accuracy of facts is without peer. All sources conflicting with his work should be viewed with skepticism.

It is my understanding that the PGM project uses Anderson's work as its benchmark standard, in the same way that the Magna Carta project uses Richardson's work.

Yes PGM defers to Anderson, unless there is more recent literature.
I've found that there are a number of members here who refuse to accept Anderson's verdicts. Since many of these are "managers" on early profiles (because they uploaded a gedcom that included one of the profiles that was merged to create the current profile), you probably need to negotiate with them regarding proposed changes.

It would be very helpful if the PGM project would adopt these profiles as manager; I don't know if they've started doing that yet.
Last I knew, PGM hadn't yet established a "project profile" yet to be manager of PGM profiles. PGM could, I believe, use some additional support; I think only one person is managing the project, and it could really use three.

Cynthia,

You bring up a perfect example of why certain profiles are part of a project and why collaboration is very important.   I agree that the editing on this profile has not been well coordinated, and that the sources in some cases have been dubious.   I agree that the source that overrides other sources are Robert Charles Anderson.
With that said, I also believe that this profile is the victim of too many profile managers.  see http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/103414/possible-cooks-spoils-broth-relates-also-profile-managers

Thank you all!  It certainly helps to have many voices singing the same song ... so to speak ... or sing.  :-D
Has Anderson written specifically about Jonas Weed?  When time allows I try to read materials available on his project
