parents of robert m. stothart

my brickwall has always been robert m. stothart. we know he was born in scotland, around 1766. he was in tennessee by 1802 serving as postmaster general. there is family legend that states that robert came over with his twin brother ,william. legend also states that william settled in pennsylvanoa. I havent been able to find any records of roberts ancestry. please help

There was a William Stothart living in Philadelphia, PA during the  1810 and the 1820 US Census. He was in the North Ward, Philadelphia, PA during both censuses.
