I Love A Mystery!

Do you love a mystery? If so, you may be a candidate for our February Unknowns Challenge! The goal is to identify and source at least one profile with Unknown (or a variant) as the Last Name at Birth. Too many invisible people are wandering around the WikiTree family tree. They live in a kind of limbo; we don't know who they are or where they came from. Can you help us remember these forgotten people?

Required:

* Chosen profile should have been born at least 100 years ago. No living people should be included.

* At least one date and place: birth, marriage or death confirmed with source.

*Confirmed Last Name at Birth (LNAB) with source.

* Post your chosen and successfully identified profile to this thread.

Nice to have:

* Names of parents and Interesting biographical data

Candidates to be chosen from the following surname lists: Unknown, Lnu, Not_Known, NN, Wife.

If the profile is orphaned, you may adopt it in order to change the last name at birth. Then if you wish you may remove yourself as Profile Manager. If the profile you choose has a Profile Manager, contact that person and inform them that you wish to add information and suggest a name change.

So hone your research skills, sharpen your pencils and rev up your computers. It's time to get serious about research. Thanks to all you wonderful people for your help.

Fantastic challenge, Shirley!! I'll have to look into helping when I get back home.
I did one!  But it has a manager and I can't change the LNAB  ???

The profile manager is pretty active on WikiTree, so if you send her a message with your source for correct name and ask her to make the change, I don't think there will be a problem.
Right, I did that Shirley, hopefully she does. :)

I found my first one - it's Wife-42  There is just one problem - I found five sources, four of them showing her LNAB and all of these spelled differently (Billiodo, Billaudeau, Belledeau, and Bellodue), so technically I suppose I don't know her LNAB yet.  Does this still count?  I found:

  • 1940 census showing her married with husband and children
  • 1900 census showing her living with parents
  • Marriage record
  • Death records for 2 of her children

The profile has an active manager and green privacy, so I posted all the info in a comment there.

C'mon everyone and join in - if I can do this then certainly anyone can!!!

--------------------------
Just found another one - Unknown-208989 is Rose Dengowski.  Found 1920, 1930, and 1940 census records that show she had 5 children (none have profiles).  Also found birth records for 2 of the children plus her death record, which shows her father's name.  This one is also green privacy with active manager, so I left a comment there.

The above one was 2nd wife of August Hulska.  His first wife, Wife-171 is Anna Clark in her son's death record.

-------------------------------
Nailed #4 - Wife-111 is Emma Warman.  She married Amon Mahan October 19, 1918 in Illinois.  Also found 1920 census showing their child and 1900 census for both her and her husband.  More green privacy, so left comments on profiles.

Way to go Gaile! Two in one day. I think the first one should count; just need to check with that family line for the preferred spelling.
Excellent detective work, Gaile! I think that Holocaust file has made you an expert with these. :-)

She was Eva Boston.  I found her marriage record to Wilfred Duguay in Detroit in 1916.  Comment left on profile.

By the way, this is my favorite type of research.  I created a "Maiden Name Project" for myself last year to find all the maiden names of women in my personal family tree of almost 28,000 people.  While I didn't find them all, I found the majority of them.  I could do this all day, every day, loving every minute of it.  :)
