Did you know that we have over 50,000 profile-to-profile links to the FamilySearch Tree?

Hi WikiTreers,

Before heading out to RootsTech (the big annual genealogy conference hosted in Salt Lake City by FamilySearch) I decided to check on usage of the WikiTree-FamilySearch Connections app (info).

Even though we don't promote it, 640 WikiTree members have used it to link 46,456 profiles on WikiTree to 53,387 profiles on the FamilySearch Tree.

Cool, right?

We need to make the next round of improvements to this a priority. We have a plan laid out, but we haven't been pestering FamilySearch for approval and they've forgotten about us. I'll do some pestering this week.

Thanks for the reminder, Chris.

How should we best handle all the duplicates over on familysearch? I just started reviewing my watchlist/comparison with familysearch and familysearch has a LOT of duplicates on their side. I hesitate to link a wikitree profile with more than one familysearch duplicate. And I barely have bandwidth to work on duplicates here at wikitree, much less learn how it's done over there.

What's your advice?
I just tried it out. It's interesting but I'm not sure I understand how it's helpful to me. The link-back doesn't provide any new info, but I guess if someone makes a change on the FS side on a linked profile, I'll be notified somehow.

I literally JUST tried it so I'm sure I'll see the value as it goes along.

I use the FamilySearch Connections so much that I wrote about it:

It says permission denied on your blog post - invite only.
Sorry about that, Sandi ! I do not blog that much so I opened it up.

Chris,

Wow, I had no idea this existed.  I joined FamilySearch before I ever heard about Wiki Tree.  Awesome idea.

As I'm using FamilySearch more and more it has occurred to me that it might be helpful to include the FamilySearch reference numbers on the WikiTree profiles that I edit.  I haven't done it yet, but I will consider doing so going forward.

I had thought about doing this also. Some of them I put down as a web page on Ancestry accounts.

Chris, I see that Familysearch is now under the find menu. I would assume that if I'm on a given profile and I select Find:FamilySearch, that it would attempt to find the family search version(s) of that profiles person. But I only get my watchlist.

How do we find the FS profile for a given profile, whether or not it's on my watchlist?

Thanks.

Interesting stuff Chris. I have used it a bit, but would probably use it more if there was a convenient way to do so directly from the profile page. I usually forget how to do it and have to use google to find the tool.

I agree. I wish the link was easier to find.

Thank you, Dennis Wheeler for the link! I tried it, and it works great!

Thank you very much!
