It looks like Josiah Shaw was born about 1829 in West Virginia.  He appears to have been married at least once before Delilah as his son, James Riley Shaw, died in 1930 in Monroe County, Ohio.  His parents are listed as Josiah Shaw and Sarah Hunnell.  He was born in 1850.  In 1860, Josiah is married to Delilah and they have Richard Shaw, age 2, and Nancy Shaw, age 2 months, so it is probable that he married Delilah between 1850 and 1860.  I am not finding a marriage record for him either to Sarah or Delilah.  Finding the parents of Josiah will be problematic as he is not living with them in 1850 and they are not listed on his death record (which is just a list of deaths for the county, but does give his age (in years, months, and days--useful in figuring out exactly when he was born), the place of his birth (West Virginia), his occupation (Farmer) and his cause of death (paralysis--probably from a stroke.).  I found this information on Family Search, which is a free site.  You may have to "join" to see some images--that just means you register, there is no fee involved.  I hope this helps you.  :)

After further searching ('cause I'm like that, nosy, like.), I have discovered a mystery.  His first wife, Sarah Hunnell, died, according to her Find A Grave memorial, which has an obituary, in the early 1900's.  But Josiah is living with Delilah in 1860, 1870, 1880, and Delilah gets his Civil War Pension after he dies.  The last time Delilah is found is in the 1920 census in Monroe County, Ohio, living as a widow with John Shaw.  There's no death record for her in Ohio on Family Search, so maybe she went to live with another of her children after 1920 and died in another state.  This constitutes a mystery for me, and I love me a mystery.  I've made a tree for this family and will work on it tomorrow.

I see you've left postings on the two (why does he have two memorials on Find A Grave?  Another mystery.) memorials for him.  What information can you provide about Josiah and Delilah?  Family stories, information passed down, research you've already done...have you created a profile for him here on WikiTree?  This looks like it's going to take some digging to get at the facts.  I'll be waiting for your answers tomorrow.  It's late and I have to get to bed.  :)
hi i have a little more info on josiah shaw,i have his death notice,it appearred in the spirit of democrocy paper,in woodsfield ohio, august 31,1905.josiah shaw, age 77,of round bottom, died august 17th,1905.he leaves a wife and 7 children.deceased has been member of christian church for many years and was a civil war veteran.his remains were laid to rest in the salem cemetary;funeral services conducted by f.marty, using the impressive sichards of the g.a.r.he served in union army, company A,77th regiment, ohio infantry.  as for his grave cite i also found 2 one in monroe county ohio, and one in gilbert,pa. confusing! .his father was james shaw of bucks county,pa,his mother was either elizabeth,or mary,or mary elizabeth watson of bucks county,pa,they were married in may of 1816,in bucks county,pa.hope this will help some.thank you
Yes, I saw that obituary, and also the obituary (and Find A Grave memorial) for his first wife, Sarah Hunnell.  In the 1880 census she is living with her daughter, Levina Shaw, born about 1852 in Monroe County, Ohio and gives her marital status as "divorced", which is one mystery solved.  It would appear that Levina stayed with her mother and James Riley Shaw stayed with his father.  Levina died as Levina Davis in Monroe County, Ohio in 1931.

I have also been able to trace William E Shaw (and his wife, Viola Ross) and created a Find A Grave memorial for him in the same cemetery as Violoa, as his death certificate states that's where he's buried.  I followed Mary Ellen Shaw Fiest, Ruth Frances Shaw Howell, and John Shaw, finding death certificates for them as well.  It's bothering me greatly that I cannot find a death certificate for Delilah Stewart Shaw.  As Shaw is a relatively popular surname, finding all of the children of Joshia and Delilah is hit and miss.  John Shaw, who stayed with Delilah all of his life until the 1930 census when Delilah disappeared, died a pauper in Monroe County, Ohio.  His death certificate puts him in the St James cemetery in Monroe County.  The only "St James" cemetery there is the St James Lutheran Cemetery which has under 100 people buried in it.  As Delilah received Joshia's Civil War pension (which would be worth you looking up...the pension card on Family Search gives you the number of the pension and there should be a corresponding file at the National Archives with information detailing the application that was made by his widow for his pension.  It should also give her approximate year of death as determined by the date when the monies stopped being sent to her.  And as she had some money, she probably bought a cemetery plot, or Josiah did and she is buried in the plot with him.  Calling the cemetery would be a good idea to see if they have any record of Delilah's burial. Most probably John is buried with him.)

What other type of information were you hoping to find on your family?  I have tried every way I can think of to find Delilah's death record but have been unsuccessful, which doesn't mean I won't stop trying, but I'm not optimistic about finding it.
i think ive found something delilahs parents wre lewis stewart born 1792 in pennsylvanna no death date i could find, her mother was rebecca stewart born 1798 in pennsylvanna,no maiden name or death date found.and i also found a death notice delila stewart born 1835 in ohio died dec 14th 1927 at 92 in tyler wva.i dont know if this is her,but its logical that she may have had relatives there or my grandfather may have. i dont know.hope you can dig farther.also josiahs mothers  was elizabeth watson. born 1794 or 95,her parents john and mary watson.i found this info thru quaker records.
Yes, you found her.  :)  http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_view.aspx?Id=1906833&Type=Death  Tyler is the county where her daughter, Mary Ellen Shaw Fiest died.  The informant for Delilah's death certificate could be one of Mary Ellen's daughters or daughters-in-law, or cousin or some other relative.  I'll work on that.  But that's is almost undoubtedly your Delila Stewart.  What's funny is that I did a search on the West Virginia death records site, but came up empty because of the way I spelled her given name.  Yay, you!  Congratulations.  :)
