Hi,
I have been working on this poem off an on and finally finished it.
Becoming a Genealogist
Each day my husband of thirty
wonderful years comes home from
work and asks me what I’ve been doing all day?
Each day, I tell him you know…
working on both of our families’ genealogy.
He looks at me in wonder and replies don’t
you get bored of doing the same thing day in
and day out? I thought for a moment,
smiling and joyfully responding,
how could anyone get bored spending a day
hanging out in England, or with the first settlers
in New England. Students of Genealogy
develop an entirely new deeper perspective
on American and World history. We study
world migration patterns of surnames.
Once you have begun your ancestry journey
you will never see the world the same again.
Many people wonder when they begin
to look back at their ancestors
if they are going to be disappointed by
their ancestors. I prefer to wonder if when
I meet my ancestors they will be proud of “me.”
