Hugh Ashton b;1825 and Ellen Ashton b;1827 were the two children of John Ashton b; 1798 and Margaret Ashton b; 1793 family origins unknown.  John Ashton arrived in Tasmania (Van Diemans Land) aboard the Brig "Norval" ex Liverpool in May 1830 and Margaret and their two children came to Tasmania aboard the Barque (bark) "Adventure" ex Liverpool arriving in Tasmania in April 1833.

John Ashton was "invited" by his father or Uncle (Unproven) George Ashton b;1771  to come and live in his township of Green Ponds (Kempton) in Tasmania in about 1830. George was a convict sentenced in 1801 for stealing cotton material from Claytons Drying House in Leyland, Lancashire. George became a wealthy landowner with a substantial farm over 2,500 acres in the district of Green Ponds, Tasmania.
