Henry Harrison Sager and Almira Charlotte Alexander/Sager were my great grandparents. Am trying to trace Geneology for my children. In 1338 the family lived on lake (ZUG) in Switzerland. Seeger is derived from the word "see", or person living by the sea or owning a lake. This branch of the family are the Freihern Knight Von Seegers in Tyrol. Over the centuries, the name has been spelled many ways. Seeger, Saeger, and Sager. I have traced the family from Burk Sager (1402), who was councillor at Berne. The next descendant I found is John Sager, born 1553, who was the governor of Arberg. The next I found is Melchior Saeger, born 1636. A John Nicholas Sager, born in 1694, in Bavaria, (Germany), came to this country with his wife Anna to Pennsylvania in 1733. Dr. John George Sager, born Jan 19, 1739 in Lancaster County, PA is the 3rd line. Fredrick John Sager, son of Dr. John George was born in PA, Jan 19, 1744 and married Elizabeth Sheets. We are decendants of these men. I've traced the line directly to The Sager Orphans and the Whitman Massacre. Mom knew, from information passed to her from family through her mother, of Dr. John Sager, and the Sager's involvement in the Whitman Massacre. Now, I am trying to trace my Great Grandparents back to that timeline. I've left out a lot, but that is the gist of things. I know that both male Sager children were killed in the massacre. However, the Sager line continued in my branch of the family down to my grandmother, Vilie Victoria Sager/Stout, daughter of Henry Harrison Sager and Almira Alexander/Sager. They were from Seymour, IA, Wayne County. Any info. Re: ancestors of Henry and Almira would be appreciated.
