{{DAR-grs|ancestor number|ancestor name|access date}}

Profile Ashton-13 has the template in place.

Thank you, Elizabeth. That's easier to understand than what not to do or a blank template.

Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). An American organization for women who are descended from someone who fought in the American Revolution of 1774-1781.
Thanks Henry
Hi Guy,

It's the template approved by the Daughters of the American Revolution for American Revolutionary War ancestors profiles.

I see that it isn't on the template list: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Templates

I was listed under source templates on the Template page which has been moved to http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Source_Templates .

It is currently in doubt whether source templates should be recommended or not.

Ack!!!!  No reason to reinvent the wheel. Grab your old MLA Handbook from school, follow the format and voila, you have a read citation.

Or, you can use the auto citation tools at www.easybib.com to create a valid citation in MLA or Chicago format.

The easybib site will create the citation for hou if you plug in the URL of a website or the name of a book. The also provide manual citation formats for everything from journals to electronic databases.

No need to duplicate effort by creating a template that may vary from the academic standard citation.
The wheel has already been invented, through some diplomatic effort I believe. It's a source template approved by DAR National that links back to their database.

Thanks for the easybib tip though.
Hi Michelle H, I believe the DAR template is an exception to the rule. A lot of work went in to getting DAR to approve its use.
Yes, approval from DAR was quite the pickle. Kitty worked really hard with DAR for their approval.

I enjoy using the source templates & find them helpful.

I am in agreement with you Sandi.  We need to keep the DAR template.

It should be added to the regular template list. I have always ended up searching for it using google.

Here is where it lives: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Template:DAR-grs.

If you go to this page, it will have links to all the profiles with the DAR template applied, so you can see some other examples.

I'm not sure why it isn't on the regular template list....

My conclusion is that it is because it is not a regular, but a source template.

I found a link that shows a list of profiles linked to the template!

Thanks Sandi.

There is an option "inbound links" at the bottom of most pages. Here you will find all pages linked.
Thanks for the inbound links tip, Michelle!
You're welcome!! (Miss the smiley face icons we used to have)

HI Sandi,

I have updated the http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:17761776 Project Page in accordance with the new Project Page format.

As others pointed out the DAR template is a source template.  This was worked out with the NSDAR as they have restrictions on the use of their logo.

How to use it is described on the project page.

Others have given you examples but here is a list of Patriots you can peruse if you like.  Since not all Patriots are in the SAR, some will have the template and some will not.

(Edit: I see you found the DAR linked profiles, even better.)
Thanks, Michael. The instructions are very clear.
